An opportunity has arisen to join the **Canal & River Trust** as a **Workshop Supervisor **based at **Bradley Workshop, Bilston, West Midlands.**

You will play an important role in supporting our vision and delivering our Waterways and Wellbeing strategy across England & Wales, ensuring our national waterways, reservoirs and infrastructure are managed & maintained as well as new developments and improvements are in place for our visitors, customers & service users to benefit from.

We currently have an excellent opportunity to join the Trust as a **Workshop Supervisor. **In this role, you will be facilitating the efficient working of the team **building/supplying/repairing complete lock gate and lock gate parts** in line with safety requirements, Trust policies and heritage standards. We are looking for organised and engaging Supervisor, with management experience, who demonstrates that a positive customer experience and Health and Safety standards are central to both how they work, and how they set expectations of their team.

**About us**

Our Workshop Supervisor manage the delivery of the workshop manufacturing/fabrication programme ensuring that jobs are completed according to planned schedules, to budget and quality whilst maximising safety. Overseeing a team of up to 15 workshop operatives you will provide daily on-site supervision; managing and organising workloads, ensuring correct materials are accessible and facilitating the general efficient workflow of the workshop team. You will liaise with other teams, third parties and customers when needed.

**Key accountabilities**:

- Lead, motivate and develop individuals to ensure that the appropriate skills and competencies are maintained to deliver the objectives of the team. Resolve any staff issues in the first instance and where necessary escalate to line management & HR colleagues.
- Manage direct reports annual leave, absences and time keeping to ensure the production plan can be delivered to required timescales.
- Ensure that key skills and knowledge are transferred around the team so that in the event of annual leave and absence bottlenecks in production do not occur.
- Contribute to the identification of productivity targets and communicate to the production team via regular team talks.
- Take responsibility for day to day safety and promote a strong safety culture. Ensure that all near misses, incidents and accidents are reported and be part of investigations and improvements as required. Ensure safe use of appropriate equipment, prepare Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work, ensuring contents are understood and acted upon. Complete complex paperwork & statutory records when needed.
- Produce gate specific timber list and fabrication requirements from gate measurement information/drawings for manufacture/fabrication.
- Ensure defined Quality Assurance checks are completed at identified hold points.
- Manage the day to day work plans of Trainees/Apprentices. Ensure day to day mentoring and support is provided. Resolve any minor issues identified by the trainee/apprentice or in relation to skills development. Ensure that works being undertaken is meeting the training needs of the Apprentice/Trainee.
- Manage and maintain buildings, equipment and vehicles to the required standards to ensure their availability for works and where necessary instruct contract partners to attend site to carry out services or repairs.
- Liaise with on-site contractors, ensuring inductions are completed, safe systems of work are reviewed and the Workshop team are aware of the contractors movements and scope of work.
- Work alongside the wider management team to develop and implement improved production methods aimed at increasing the efficiency of the Workshop
- Continually drive the standard in production from materials in to completed lock gates leaving the Workshop to be the best it could possibly be by challenging the status quo & involving the team in improvement initiatives
- Perform biannual performance reviews with direct reports, ensuring that throughout the year expectations are clear and performance targets are met
