Grounds and Garden Labourer

Responsible to the Building Chargehand for all delegated duties concerned with the maintenance of the grounds and gardens at the Worthing Hospital site and various other premises for which the Trust is responsible, ensuring their effective and efficient maintenance and upkeep.

As one of our key support services, facilities and estates is responsible for the smooth running of our hospitals. The teams work in areas such as transport, catering, portering, domestic, reception, switchboard, car parking and security. And they play an important part in patient experience making sure our services work effectively all day, every day for our patients.

Our Estates teams provide maintenance, repair, improvement and engineering support across the Trust. Their work takes them to all corners of our sites to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all our staff and patients.

Main

**Responsibilities**:
Garden Maintenance
- Assist in the maintenance of shrub beds, bedding, lawns, paved areas, trees, hedges and boundaries as instructed.
- Assists in ground clearance and site clearance (bins and litter-picking) where necessary.
- Assist in landscaping work when directed.
- Assists in normal gardening, hoeing, staking, tying, planting, pruning, etc.
- Operate machinery for grass cutting, strimming and spraying weed killer.

Grounds Maintenance
- Clear snow and carry out gritting as required in the winter months.

Routine Maintenance/Inspections
- Execute Planned Preventive Maintenance inspections as per specification.
- Undertake cleaning and minor servicing duties as may be directed from time to time, bringing necessary issues to the manager’s attention.

Other Duties
- Work flexibly with other Estates staff to provide a comprehensive high-quality service for the benefit of patients and visitors.
- Perform other routine work as necessary including labouring.
- Provide cover for other grounds and gardens staff during periods of leave or other absence.
- To undertake additional duties and responsibilities as may be delegated by the Building Chargehand / Supervisor.
