**Job description**:
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Department for Transport’s Public Appointments Team as it expands to manage public appointments across the Department’s wide range of public bodies. You will lead a high-performing function that sets the standard for best practice in central government recruitment, by learning from recruitment across all sectors. Appointing capable and diverse leaders to our boards is vitally important to the effective and efficient delivery of Government’s priorities; your role will make all the difference.

**Responsibilities**

**_ Include, but not limited to:_**
- Ensuring that DfT is at the forefront of best practice in public appointments by learning from recruitment across all sectors.
- Working with partners including Cabinet Office, No.10 and the Commissioner for Public Appointments to ensure effective forward planning, co-ordination and compliance in all our appointments.

To be successful in the role you will have excellent leadership skills. You will be able to engage your team in an ambitious vision for success and build a team structure and skillset to meet your objectives. You will have well-developed communication skills, with the ability to build trust and negotiate with multiple partners to navigate complex situations where the reputation of the Department and excellent value for the taxpayer are paramount. You will be able to inspire your team to continuously improve the service we deliver, engaging across the public and private sectors and seeking new ways of delivering. You will be adept at developing a broad network of colleagues and partners within and outside DfT to achieve common goals, and you will use your relationships to remove barriers to your team’s progress. You will have a strong focus on customer service, inviting feedback to understand the complexity of customer needs and expectations, whilst identifying the most cost effective and efficient delivery methods. Above all, you will inspire confidence from Ministers and senior leaders in the consistently high-quality service that your team delivers.

**Additional Information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
