Path Links is a single managed NHS clinical pathology network operating across Lincolnshire. It was formed in 2001 from the amalgamation of NHS pathology services in Boston, Grantham, Grimsby, Lincoln and Scunthorpe, The Cellular Pathology Department is a well-established centralised service and has a team of sixteen consultants. The laboratory is well equipped to provide the diagnostic tests required for reporting and is implementing Digital Microscopy to provide greater diagnostic versatility.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School (HYMS). This honorary appointment is in recognition of contribution to teaching and research and holders of honorary titles may request access to HYMS and University premises and facilities, systems, and library services.

All Consultants will be expected to contribute to the following:

- Shared workload of histology and cytology as appropriate for their specialty interests
- Specimen reporting and authorisation with clinical interpretation of reports
- Provision of advice regarding specimen type / collection and investigations
- Day to day supervision of diagnostic methods and examination of specimens
- Occasional requirement to work or attend meetings at another hospital site
- Provision of cover for planned leave of colleagues
- Supervision, training and management of doctors in training in the department
- Involvement in policy and SOP preparation
- Responsibility for quality assurance performance within the department, including taking part in all relevant National External Quality Assurance (NEQAS) programmes
- Responsibility for achieving and maintaining full accreditation via UKAS
- Business planning, including the assessment and introduction of new methods, and forward planning for staff and equipment requirements.
