**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title**:Trainee Kilt Marker / Sewing Machinist/ Hand sewer

**Location**:Perth

**Department**:Production

**Responsible to**:The Kiltmaker

**Responsible for**:There is no responsibility planned for supervising staff.

**Job Purpose**

To work as part of a team providing an efficient service within the kilt making process with the purpose of maximising production and other operating efficiencies.

**Principal Duties**

1. Checking to ensure that all material provided meets the required standard prior to any cutting/processing taking place.

2. Cut and mark out the fabric to the required length and specification as per the work sheet.

3. Assist in preparing the marked kilts and accompanying documentation for dispatch to the sewing department.

4. Assist with the final inspection of all finished kilts as required.

5. Carrying out minor repair work on the kilts and hand stitching duties as required.

6. Machine sewing duties in all aspects of Highland wear production and including attaching labels and hemming of goods and samples.

7. Hand sewing duties in all aspects of Highland wear production.

8. Packing of finished goods as required.

9. To maintain a clean and tidy work area to prevent the soiling of fabric.

10. To assist in the maintenance of a safe working environment through the strict adherence to the company health and safety rules and procedures.

The post holder will be required to perform duties appropriate to the post, other than those given in this job description. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of the responsibilities entailed.

**Attributes and Experience**

In addition to an excellent timekeeping and attendance record, the following attributes are required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A team worker with a flexible attitude.
- Excellent eyesight and full capacity to recognise and distinguish between different colours.
- Attention to detail in all aspects.
- Sewing machine and hand sewing experience is required.
- Full training in kiltmarking will be provided.

**EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION**

POSITION Trainee Kilt Marker/sewing machinist/Hand sewer

LOCATION Perth

HOURS OF WORK Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4.30pm (1/2 Hour for lunch)
Friday 8.00am to 11.30am
37.5 hours per week

Additional hours may be required to fulfil the duties of the post.

ANNUAL LEAVE 30 days holiday entitlement per annum which includes time off for public/bank holidays.
The leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December.

REMUNERATION £9.50 per hour.
Payment is made weekly in arrears.

The original weaving business began in 1783 at Remony near Aberfeldy, Perthshire and moved to
Pitlochry in 1835. Over the years there have been many changes to the business although it has always remained within the same family. Since 1999 the Head Office and warehousing operations have been based in Perth, with production operations located in Keith and Paisley.

Macnaughton Holdings Limited is a privately owned company, managed by a Board of executive and non-executive Directors. The executive Directors are responsible for their separate divisions
(Finance, Operations, Production and Wholesale) with overall responsibility resting with the Managing
Director.

The Company employs approximately 95 people in total. The majority of the employees are based in
Perth, Paisley and Keith, with certain Sales Personnel based in other areas in Scotland and England
