Digital Product Designer

**Purpose**:
This is a unique opportunity to help shape how Manchester United fans and customers around the world experience our digital products. You will be helping to envision and define how we create experiences that leave our users feeling inspired, that are easy to use, well understood, and valued. You will work on solving a wide range of problems and tasks across the club on multiple platforms that sit within our digital ecosystem by creating solutions that are data-informed and led by UCD principles and methodologies.
User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that fans love. We strive to learn and understand our users’ needs, behaviours, and emotions to gather insights that further inform product strategy and design.
Your work will touch millions of Manchester United fans, while exemplifying a key principle that is core to the club's product-team core philosophy: “Fan First.”
**The Role**:
As part of the Manchester United Product Team within the Digital Products and Experiences (DP&E) group, you will work collaboratively with our UX & Design Product Lead, Product managers, Developers, the Technical Architect, and Director of Digital Product in creating exciting and positive digital experiences for our fans on iOS, Android, Smart TVs and web 2.0 and 3.0, that help achieve business goals and success metrics for our products. You will also work with other key stakeholders within the DP&E department and across the entire club, to ensure we are delivering the right things in the best possible way. You will need to help advocate the importance of good UX, CX and UI across the club.
We’re a small but mighty team where everyone plays a critical role in improving our processes, building inclusive environments for UX and design to excel.
Principal Accountabilities:
- The ability to deeply understand our fans, users you’re designing for, customers, and support staff. Whether it’s learning from previous insights, reading data reports, or running your own lightweight research and analysis, you’ll strive to understand the what, why and how of the problems you’re solving, to ensure that we ship the right thing for our fans and users.
- The ability to facilitate the production of evidence-based product UX and UI Design executing polished, intuitive and accessible user experiences.
- You’re comfortable running workshops or leading remote collaboration sessions with cross-functional groups.
- A good understanding of design thinking and user-centered design principles and methodologies.
- Help define, plan, and conduct user research and usability testing.
- Develop and innovate on our mixed-methods user research practice.
- Take a holistic view of understanding our long-term strategy and business goals, and proactively identify gaps and opportunities for new research.
- You’re comfortable running workshops or leading remote collaboration sessions with cross-functional groups
- Deliver compelling and timely insights to the product team.
- Be pragmatic and able to balance the ideal experience with knowing where and when to make scoping trade-offs based on technical constraints, experimentation strategy or business risk.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team of product, development, design and data analytics that fosters a positive and inclusive “Fan First” culture
- Take into account existing insights, technical constraints, business needs, and specific platform demands to produce data-informed solutions
- Take ownership of your work and put your passion into every last detail, every step of the way.
**The Person**:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a product design role at a consumer-focused company or agency.
- Ideally has a degree in Digital Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Social Science, or a related field.
- Comfortable planning, scoping, conducting, analysing, and communicating research.
- Familiar with quantitative research methods, comfortable with metrics and A/B tests, and can synthesise quantitative data with qualitative user research.
- A phenomenal storyteller and communicator, able to speak fluently to business people, designers, engineers and other stakeholders.
- Enjoys working collaboratively in a dynamic, data-informed, creative environment.
- Well-versed in design and prototyping tools like Figma, Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Has a good understanding of Design Systems and HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
- Has a basic understanding of native and web development, the app store and web release processes.
- Possess an understanding that writing is designing, and the words on your interfaces are always purposeful and clear.
