**Job description**:
The Media Officer is a pivotal position supporting a range of internal and external media activities.
Primarily responsible for delivering a range of digital and social media communication outputs that helps RAF Lossiemouth engage, educate and inspire a wide-ranging audience including internationally. Responsible for creating external communication content; including' media releases, website management and the delivery of informative and interactive social media content, the post holder is instrumental in ensuring RAF Lossiemouth’s reputation is protected.
Displaying highly attuned digital, written and verbal communication skills, the Media Officer will work in partnership with a military Media and Communications Officer to manage enquiries from across the Station, deal with enquiries and complaints from members of public and respond in timely manner to media enquiries and breaking news. They must be able to display good judgement, have a keen understanding of policy and be able to build a relationship of trust with key stakeholders.
This is a pivotal, fast-paced and challenging role on a front-line military unit that directly contributes to the national Royal Air Force communication strategy and wider cross-Government communication outputs.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Responsibilities include;
- Managing enquiries from the press and public dealing swiftly and sensitively dealing with sometimes highly emotive matters in a timely manner and in compliance with policy.
- Working collaboratively within the wider team to research, create and moderate innovative social media content that actively engages the audience, increases engagement and reach across key target demographics.
- Sustaining a positive relationship with local/regional media outlets to ensure RAF Lossiemouth content is accurately covered and creating interesting media releases which capture key events and releasing with appropriate imagery to appropriate outlets.
- Monitoring local media, social media, online forums, Google alerts and the MOD daily media update to ensure any potentially contentious issues or opportunities are swiftly identified for the chain of command.
- Coordinating the smooth running of media and engagement events, staffing urgent media enquiries/breaking news and the activation of emergency communications plans in the event of major incident/world events.
- Supervision and direct line management of 1 x civil servant, and in the absence of others, supervision and indirect line management of wider Communications and Engagement Team members.
**Person specification**:
This role is suited to someone who is highly organised and enjoys being part of a high performing team.
The ability to communicate effectively is essential as you will be engaging with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally.
**Desirable Experience**
Prior work experience (paid or voluntary) or qualifications/training in journalism, corporate communications or digital marketing would be a distinct advantage.
Video/Photo Editing, Photography and Videography skills and social media experience.
