Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We interact with over 225,000 patients annually, from outpatient appointments to surgery to correct cataracts and helping to manage other eye conditions. Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and primarily Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships, with each eye centre focused on providing excellent care to their communities. We have significant growth plans as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites over the next few years.

We are looking for a Category Buyer to join our Procurement team within the Central Operations department.

**Overview of the role**

Reporting into the Supplier and Logistics Manager, the Category Buyer will play a key role in ensuring that our clinical services have a continued supply of goods (pharmaceuticals, clinical and non-clinical consumables) and services.

The Category Buyer will manage a range of goods and suppliers, with the ambition of implementing sourcing strategies around standardisation which can delivery operational and commercial benefits across our sites.

The role is home based with ad-hoc travel to our clinical sites, office locations and supplier facilities as and when required.

**So** what will I be doing?**

You'll be focusing heavily on reviewing current processes and setting category strategies around what we procure. You’ll oversee aspects such as commercial negotiations, risk mitigation, supplier/product rationalisation, and you’ll monitor and adapt the strategy as the business grows and market conditions change.

You’ll be taking an active role in managing products in our supply chain, you'll have central visibility from our stock management platform, and that will allow you to analyse the trends, work alongside business stakeholders to make more informed decisions based on our behaviours and to research any alternatives in the market.

You’ll also be managing a range of external suppliers, fostering true two-way value add relationships through effective supplier relationship management. You’ll use data to analyse performance and will undertake streamlining activity within the supplier base when required to ensure economies of scale can readily be realised. You’ll be involved in tender activity, ensuring due diligence and agreeing commercially favourable contracts.

This is a broad role and provides great opportunities for self-development and a real chance to put your own stamp on things - you’ll have autonomy to influence strategy as well as getting stuck in operationally to make change happen.

And because Newmedica is growing at a pace you’ll be a key person in the team to embed standardisation across the business with both our newly opened and existing Services, working closely with stakeholders to ensure developments and benefits are shared and adopted. You'll also ensure coaching and upskilling is undertaken with key people at each of our sites to ensure they are bought into the procurement journey at Newmedica.

**What experience do I need?**

It goes without saying that you’ll already come from a procurement background and have substantial working experience of principles and processes - sourcing strategies, negotiations and benchmarking analysis as well as managing supplier relationships and contracting.

We’re looking for someone with experience of purchasing goods and services, ideally within a healthcare setting. You’ll have or will be working towards CIPs qualifications.

You’ll be accomplished at building excellent working relationships - whether that be with external suppliers or with internal stakeholders. You’ll be adept at fostering mutually beneficial relationships with your friendly but firm approach and you won’t shy away from having tough conversations as and when required.

You’ll have some experience of setting high level strategy and delivering this to senior stakeholders. You’ll use your excellent communication and negotiation skills to overcome any objections or challenges.

It’ll be a busy role and very fast paced. It will suit someone who is happy to work with ambiguity and to set processes and strategy up, almost from a blank piece of paper.
