**School Chaplain**who is easy to approach and able to handle sensitive issues, with experience of leading faith related / spiritual and religious education activities in an educational setting is required for a well-established school trustbased in Harrow, North West London.

**SALARY**:£26,420 - £28,860 FTE / £18,531 - £20,242 Actual Salary (term time only)

**JOB OVERVIEW**

We have a fantastic opportunity for a School Chaplainwho is easy to approach and able to handle sensitive issues, with experience of leading faith related / spiritual activities in an educational setting.

The academy trust’s Chaplaincy focuses on nourishing the roots of spiritual insight and as the School Chaplain you will create a safe space for students by providing emotional and spiritual support. You will use this space to engage with students aroundtheir unique spiritual journeys, offering opportunities for students to introspect and reflect on their own development and growth.

Working as the School Chaplain you will nurture and support the pupils at the very start of their spiritual journey. Working closely with teaching and key pastoral staff you will help to create the spiritual ethos of the school, alongside the Assistant Principalfor Spiritual Insight and supporting staff to enable further development of the school.

Chaplains also support students with spiritual practices such as guided meditation or yoga as tools for harmony and well-being.

This is currently a trial period of Chaplaincy at the school, and would therefore have the potential to extend to a permanent basis.

**DUTIES**

Your duties and responsibilities as School Chaplainwill include:

- Nurture the individual child and promote the development of the whole person (body, mind and spirit) in line with the spiritual ethos of the school
- Be an approachable presence in the school and someone that the students feel that they can talk to on spiritual matters
- Guide and support all employees of the School in their knowledge and understanding of spiritual practices
- Develop positive relations with students, parents and staff
- To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Attend and support appropriate meetings/courses and to undertake any training as deemed necessary for personal development
- Be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate
- Be willing to undertake tasks deemed essential to the spiritual development of the school, at the discretion of the Principal
- Provide 1-1 emotional and spiritual wellbeing support for students through drop-in sessions
- Provide staff and student Wellbeing Discussion groups
- Provide support and guidance for pupils, staff, governors - in times of bereavement, and during spiritual, personal, family and social difficulties
- Support heads of year and inclusion team, playing an active role in the pastoral system
- Support Collective Worship in the school by leading a regular session and contributing to the development of resources for the sessions
- Support the induction of new staff and Year 7 students into the school
- Deliver assemblies based on spiritual practices, faiths and their practices
- Create Emotional & Spiritual Wellbeing Content for students: Videos, Newsletters, Journals
- Create opportunities for students to give back to the local community, and develop the school’s social outreach

**CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS**
- Have developed knowledge and a wholesome understanding of the major world religions
- Experience of leading faith related / spiritual activities in an educational setting
- Excellent communication, organisation and presentation skills
- Ability to adapt, work flexibly and work under pressure
- Ability to act upon own initiative
- Easy to approach and make themselves available for student, staff and parents
- Exceptional listening skills and empathic communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to form good working relationships with colleagues, students and parents and work as part of a team
- An approachable, accommodating attitude relating well to children and adults
- High standards embracing honesty, integrity, loyalty and trustworthiness
- Ability to handle sensitive issues keeping confidentiality as required
- Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all students
