Steel Fixer

**What will the apprentice be doing on site**: We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Steel fixer to join the team working on a project with a main contractor in the Cambridge area.
Steel fixing is the construction and assembly of various steel components that are required to reinforce concrete, structures.
As an apprentice Steel Fixer, you will be learning how to:
Set out the work area, following engineering plans.
Use hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh.
Tie in reinforcement bars together with wire, clips or welds to build up sections.
Fit spacers and 'chairs' - supports.
Fix wooden formwork and shuttering that holds setting concrete in place.
Secure steel to concrete bases.
Install beams and pre-cast slabs.
Work closely with engineering designers, steel erectors and other construction workers.
You could work on high rise buildings, on a construction site or on other structures. Your working environment may be at height, physically demanding, outdoors in all weathers
**The apprentice will need**: CSCS card - assistance will be provided in how to obtain this.
Successful completion of Drugs & Alcohol test.
Willingness to learn.
Punctual.
Keen to progress into long term career in the trade.
Enjoy and be able to work with others as well as independently.
Highly motivated.
Strong work ethic.
**Essential qualities**: Good Maths skills are required.

A good head for heights.
The willingness to work outdoors in al weathers.
Good degree of physical fitness.
**Desirable qualities**: The ability to work well as part of a team.
**Qualifications Required**: Minimum GCSE grade D/3 or above required in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications.
