Applications are invited for a Consultant General and Respiratory Physician at Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH) which is based in the Clyde Sector of NHSGGC.

The Department of Respiratory Medicine based at IRH is linked into the wider Respiratory team based across the Clyde Sector (including The Royal Alexandra and The Vale of Leven Hospitals). In total the team comprises of 9.5 WTE Consultants across the Clyde Sector. The Clyde Sector team provides a general Respiratory Service as well as access to a number of sub-specialities including medical thoracoscopy, severe asthma, interstitial and pleural disease.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and dedicated team at IRH and to influence the future design and direction of the service. There is a degree of flexibility in this role in relation to specialist interests. It is expected that the post holder will contribute to the leadership, delivery and development of respiratory services. This post is to enhance the care of patients with respiratory diseases in Inverclyde and develop the expansion of the service The role provides additional in reach into the High Dependency Unit.

The IRH team is well supported with two Respiratory Nurse Specialists, one Advanced Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist and Specialist Respiratory Physiologists.

The job plan is designed for full time, 10 PAs and there may be the opportunity to negotiate job plans. Applications are encouraged from clinicians who are interested in incorporating academic and/or research sessions within their job plan. The IRH Consultant team strongly advocates team working and support to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

The medical team at IRH aim to provide an excellent training experience For the second year in a row, the General Internal Medicine training and experience within ECMS has been identified in the top 2% within the country for this speciality -The 2023 GMC National Training Survey (NTS) and Scottish Deanery National Training Survey (STS).

All newly qualified Consultants are initially offered a minimum of 1 Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) which includes CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning and management meetings. This will be reviewed within 6 months (or earlier if required) of appointment and revised upwards if additional responsibilities are agreed.
