**ANNUAL SALARY**: £21,190
**Full-Time**: 39 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays
Our Animal Management Centre is one of the best in the country, our Biaza registered centre has over 100 species offering our students the opportunity to learn from a wide variety of environments and species.
We are looking for somebody who has a passion for animals and who has the experience of working with a range of different species such as reptiles, aquatics and primates.
As an animal technician you will be responsible for general animal husbandry including feeding and watering, cleaning and maintaining enclosures as well as delivering excellent standards of animal welfare.
This role includes working with our students and academic teams to develop skills and knowledge.
We require somebody who has a keen eye for detail and is proficient at record keeping.
**MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- General animal husbandry (including cleaning, feeding, watering, providing enrichment and enclosure maintenance) maintaining high standards of welfare.
- Supervising students throughout practical work experience duties
- Maintain the resources to the highest standards.
- Ensure the facilities are securely locked at the end of each day
- Assist academic staff on student practical lessons
- Accurate record keeping
- Supervise visitors to the Animal Unit
- Support the team with the development of collection.
- Support the team with induction and training of new technicians and academic staff.
- To work evening and weekend shifts as part of the team rota.
- To organise and take animals to routine or emergency veterinary appointments.
- To engage and support with CPD events for colleagues.
- Monitor, reporting and ordering of any consumables required.
- Take part in all staff College events such as Lambing Sunday and Open Farm Sunday
**Essential Criteria**
- _Level 3 or above in a recognised Animal care qualification_
- _Full driving licence_
- _Minimum of two years’ experience in an animal establishment with a range of different species including aquatics, reptiles and primates_
- Animal husbandry
- Child Protection Issues
- _Able to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with young people_
- Personable, engaging and polite
- Energetic and able to manage conflicting priorities
- Motivation to work with children and young people
- Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours and appropriate attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
- Fit for the duties of the post
- DBS check carried out on appointment
