Support worker

**Job Purpose**

To implement care plans by directly providing practical, physical, social and emotional care in clients homes. To create a supportive atmosphere in which clients can achieve maximum independence. To follow Cumbria Quality Cares policies and procedures.

The registered manager - Sharon Baxter

**Duties**

The specific requirements of each assignment will vary and these will be discussed with you before you accept the assignment. You will be required to care for clients with a variety of needs such as dementia, physical disabilities, visual impairment, stroke victims etc.

As a carer you must be sensitive and responsive to the race, culture, religion, age, disability, gender and sexuality of the client who is receiving care and their representatives.

You will provide care according to the client’s specific diagnosis and needs. Your duties will include:

- Communicating effectively with the client, the multi-disciplinary team and Cumbria quality Care
- Keeping accurate, factual written accounts of your time with the client
- Following the Cumbria quality Care policy with Medication as outlined in the policies and procedures
- An awareness of the clients emotional and spiritual needs
- Observing and following the Cumbria Quality Care health and safety policy

Your duties may include:

- Washing and bathing
- Use of bath aids
- Assisting the client to shave
- Mouth care
- Assisting the client to dress and undress
- Eye care
- Pressure area care
- Catheter Care
- Emptying colostomy bags
- Management of incontinence
- Management of MRSA including information sharing if client is transferred
- Exercise as appropriate to the clients abilities
- Moving and Handling

You may be required to perform tasks such as:

- Meal preparation
- Light household duties which may include:
Laundry, dusting, vacuuming, tidying, bed making, keeping the refrigerator clean and ensuring the contents have not expired.
- Escorting clients to appointments
- Making transport arrangements
- Shopping - ensuring all receipts are kept
- Any other duties which may be part of a specific assignment

**Knowledge and expertise**
- General care experience
- Ideally some experience in caring for clients in their own home
- Ideally NVQ care level 2 or 3

Essential requirements

An enhanced disclosure with the Criminal Records Bureau.

Full clean driving license.

**Salary**: £12.00 per hour
