Life Skills Recovery Worker - Inpatient CAMHS - Band 4

East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) is embarking on a very exciting journey to develop our specialist Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). In 2021, NHS England confirmed additional funding to develop an interim acute mental health inpatient unit for Children and Young People in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes.

The development of the service was in conjunction with children, parents and carers who have experience of in-patient admission. Young people are helping us plan the ethos of the unit, recruit the staff and think about how we can deliver the best care. We are really proud of the leadership provided by young people to improve mental health services. If you come and join us you will have a unique opportunity to truly collaborate to improve outcomes.

The space will provide specialist, short-term care for children and young people aged 13-17 with severe or complex mental health difficulties. You will be working alongside a diverse multi-disciplinary team that reflects the population that we serve. Our vision is to make a positive difference in young people’s lives by providing the highest quality mental health service to our local communities.

In the long term, a permanent CAMHS unit will be developed in the proposed new build that the trust is developing in Bedford. This post is substantive, as staff recruited into this role will have the opportunity to transition into the permanent unit.
- To work alongside qualified nursing and occupational therapy staff to jointly co-ordinate the day-to-day running of the service and support the teams to deliver a robust, high quality clinical service.
- To develop and maintain strong links with community resources, including within the trust, local authority and third sector organisations in order to refer patients and support their engagement in preparation for discharge.
- To assist with visits and events in the community when appropriate.
- To develop specialist knowledge and skills in child and adolescent mental health, and to train and educate others in their practice. To support with discharge planning.
- To work alongside and feedback to a well-established MDT and ensure effective communication with all relevant personnel both internal and external to the Trust.
- To practice within professional guidelines and promote professional practice in clinical area.To ensure continuous personal development through the utilisation of regular supervision, annual appraisal and training where appropriate.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
