We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic qualified Counsellor to join our dynamic team in the Department of Reproductive Medicine at St. Mary’s, Manchester.

Working within the field of infertility and assisted conception (IVF) can be very challenging but extremely rewarding. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will provide counselling support to individuals and couples accessing the Reproductive Medicine services.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will provide counselling support to patients before, during and after their fertility investigations and treatment in accordance with the HFEA Code of Practice:
To deliver one to one, couples and group support to patients accessing the Department of Reproductive Medicine services.

To provide implications counselling to those who are considering donor treatment or wishing to donate their gametes.

To carry our Welfare of the Child Assessments

To deliver training, where necessary to the multi-disciplinary team.

To maintain accurate records and professional standards by attending regular supervision, continuous professional development and training relevant to this role.

To provide confidential therapeutic face to face, video and telephone counselling support to individuals, couples and on occasions, their families in line with the BACP Ethical Framework.

To provide implications counselling support to individuals and couples who wish to donate or receive donated gametes or who wish to enter into surrogacy arrangements in line with the HFEA.

To provide time limited support to patients /clients who may wish to access the counselling service at difficult stages within the fertility treatment process in line with the HFEA code of practice

To undertake Welfare of the Child Assessments and work in close liaison with the patient/client, the multidisciplinary team and with external agencies where indicated. Assessments are undertaken in accordance with the HFEA Code of Practice..

To help organsie and facilitate patient support group meeting.

To attend HFEA inspection if necessary and to help provide information for this.

To keep records of counselling and provide statistics for end of year report.

To contribute to staff development, introducing relevant counselling concepts and models for patient support.

To contribute to the research, audit and the HFEA inspection process within the department.

To demonstrate awareness of legislation and legislative change in relation to fertility service provision.
