**Health and Safety Advisor - Airfield**

At our clients facility at Heathrow, our ambition is to set the standards for airport safety and ensure that everyone who works at or travels through the clients premises can get to their destination and return home safe and well.

We are seeking Health and Safety Advisors to support our airport operations, helping the business to identify and manage risks, track and review safety performance and continuously improve in line with safety objectives and plans.

You’ll be responsible for delivering Health & Safety advice and assurance across the airfield operations buildings effective relationships with stakeholders including operational safety leads, Trade Union H&S Representatives and the wider Fire, Health &Safety Team.

You’ll also get involved in the delivery of improvement projects, all whilst developing your Health and Safety career in this dynamic safety environment.

**Your role will involve**:

- Ensuring stakeholders understand and are compliant with Heathrow Airports standards including around safe working, safe places and equipment and welfare arrangements.
- Support the understanding of safety culture, using the continuous improvement toolkit to develop action plans to strengthen maturity.
- Ensuring risk assessments are conducted and required controls implemented and effective.
- Provide the link between other departments (e.g. Engineering, Baggage Operations, Finance, Legal) to ensure that more complex cross-departmental safety issues are mapped and managed.
- Developing an in-depth understanding of airport operations, including operational challenges, changes, stakeholder relationships, safety cultures and colleagues’ attitude to H&S.
- Management of H&S risks, supporting the delivery and adoption of Heathrow’s safety management system, providing technical advice on complex technical risk assessments and advising on the introduction of new ways of working, processes or equipment.
- Supporting with the development and delivery of Safety Improvement Plans (SIP).
- Conducting H&S audits and assurance across Heathrow and third parties, driving delivery of actions identified, escalating delayed actions and advising on alternative mitigation measures
- Oversight of compliance for mandatory training, identifying training needs based on assessment of risk and accountabilities.
- Building good relationships with Trade Unions and collaborating on work related matters.
- Supporting the development and delivery of H&S communications across business areas, including annual safety campaigns and associated events.
- Supporting good quality Incident reporting and investigation providing advice and coaching to Safety Leads and Operational Managers on good incident investigation processes leading to root cause analysis.
- Submit reports to relevant bodies, in line with existing regulations (e.g. RIDDOR).
- Oversee the quality and close out of investigations, escalating issues and supporting the investigation of more complex/serious incidents.
- Share knowledge of risks and lessons learned from incident investigations and best practice.

**Essential requirements for the job**:

- A minimum of National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- Good H&S experience (preferably 5 years), gained ideally as an adviser in a 24/7, fast paced operational environment with a solid understanding of the culture, challenges and constraints.
- Extensive experience in providing compliance related H&S expertise, advice & assurance.
- A good understanding of auditing techniques and practice.
- Proven experience with running incident & accident investigations and complex risk assessments.
- Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (at a relevant level).
- Ideally, you'll also have:

- Holding (or working towards) National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- National Certificate in Fire Safety (or equivalent).
- Excellent communication and influencing skills; including effective stakeholder management, ideally within a complex, unionised environment.
- Sound analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data in a meaningful way.
- Good understanding of continuous improvement processes and/or project management processes.
