**Job Title: Teaching Assistant - SEMH School**

**Location**: Littlehampton

**Salary**: £81.75 -£91.75

**Contract**: Full time, Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Masterclass are seeking a Teaching Assistant for a SEMH school we are working with, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers and other staff members to provide tailored support and guidance to students both inside and outside the classroom.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage in learning activities and manage their emotions and behaviour effectively.
- Support the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans (BSPs) for students, ensuring their specific needs and targets are addressed in the classroom environment.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering differentiated lessons and activities that cater to the diverse learning styles and abilities of students with SEMH needs.
- Foster positive relationships with students, providing encouragement, praise, and emotional support to help build their self-esteem and confidence.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to support students in regulating their emotions and responding appropriately to challenging situations.
- Support students in developing social skills, communication skills, and coping strategies to enhance their resilience and well-being.
- Liaise with parents/carers, external agencies, and other professionals involved in supporting students with SEMH needs, providing regular updates on progress and contributing to multi-agency meetings and reviews.

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience working with children or young people with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, preferably in an educational or similar setting.
- Understanding of SEMH conditions, behaviours, and interventions, with a compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting students' well-being.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, respond sensitively to challenging behaviours, and de-escalate situations effectively.
- A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or a related field is desirable but not essential.

**Must have**:

- Ability to work well independently and as a team
- Has a passion to support and empower children and young people
- A DBS on the Updates Service, or be willing to obtain one
- Commitment to safeguarding students and young people
- Holds GCSE’S in Maths & English grade A*-C 4-9 or equivalent
- Resilience to deal with challenging situations
