An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated band 3 Senior Assistant Technical Officer to work as part of our stock control team within the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are close to completing a business case for a brand new, innovative, off-site aseptic unit.
- Ensures the performance of the supply chain of licenced starting materials and consumables from order through to receipt and ultimately their use in Production Services.
- Manages the stock levels of all ingredients and consumable used within the aseptic unit to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained, taking responsibility for assessing the suitability of reorder levels and escalating any out-of-stock issues.
- Provides leadership and line manages the Aseptic Services Porter and the stock control Assistant Technical Officer.To supervise the work of Assistant Technical Officers in conjunction with the specialist technicians.

Our specialist cancer treatments include bone marrow transplant, sarcoma surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer surgery (not exhaustive). Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
- Receive into quarantine stock of drugs and consumables via the stores department.
- If stock is licensed starting materials, check that they are approved for use, using the product life cycle documents Escalate if there are any discrepancies.
- Manage a system for checking manufacturers product characteristics for licensed starting materials. To escalate if there are any changes which could affect manufacture of a product.
- For dose banded chemotherapy ensure certificates of conformity have been received.
- For consumables ensure certificates of conformity have been received as necessary.
- Release stock from quarantine after approval from QC if appropriate.
- To monitor changing usage rates and adjust buying patterns accordingly using own initiative.
- Analyses data in relation to stock levels, orders, deliveries and receipts.
- Plans own workload to ensure stock is available for use in the aseptic suite.
- Manage a system for returned pharmaceutical products to ensure that items are reused if appropriate, to minimise wastage and maximise cost effectiveness.
- To liaise with Quality Control about ‘drug recalls’ issued by the Medicines Healthcare and Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and or Manufacturers.
- To be actively involved in annual recall simulations as required by EL (97) 52 external audit.
- Takes part in internal and external audits in relation to stock control.
- To source drugs and consumables completing change control documentation.
- To liaise verbally and in writing with suppliers concerning any problems with deliveries.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with suppliers to enable easier procurement of products.
- To feed supply issues into the regional Procurement Supplier contract review meetings, in conjunction with the Senior Technician, stock control.
- To supervise, train and complete competency assessments of Assistant Technical Officers, in relevant areas, under the guidance of the senior technician, stock control.
- To mentor Project Search Interns.
- To cover the delivery and collection of items to the wards and other departments in the absence of technical services ATOs.
- To cover the transfer of waste for disposal, some of which is hazardous from the pharmacy to the Viridor collection point in the absence of technical services ATOs.
