Applications are invited for the above post at the City Hospital Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The position is available with a start date of 02/04/24 for 6 months. Successful applicants will work in the City Hospital elective unit and the Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre.

Main duties of the job

Day time responsibilities will include supporting elective operating theatres and elective clinics. The department offers all aspects of complex orthopaedic surgery, including limb reconstruction, arthroplasty, soft tissues and trauma reconstruction surgery.

We established the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre (MTC) at NUH on April 1st 2012. We provide acute and specialist services to 2.5 million people within Nottingham and surrounding communities from the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) and the City Hospital campuses. We are a tertiary-level elective service performing complex revision arthroplasty work as well as primary replacements for patients within our catchment and the surrounding areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Supporting Elective Orthopaedic operating theatres and elective clinics at both the City Hospital Campus and the Treatment Centre. There will be on call commitment on EO rota at City Hospital.

Person specification

Basic Qualification

Essential criteria
- MB BS (or equivalant)
- Current full GMC registration and licence to practice in date

Desirable criteria
- Prizes
- Evidence of training progress FRCS ortho, FRCSC, FRACS. Degree or on point of completing

Experience

Essential criteria
- Familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
- At least 2 years' experience in orthopaedics
- NHS Hospital experience and currently working within an NHS practice

Desirable criteria
- Complete or approaching completion of SpR training

Knowledge and clinical skills

Essential criteria
- Willing to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate
- Competent in history taking and examination skills

Communication and inter-personal skills

Essential criteria
- Able to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives
- Able to establish good working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work with colleagues as part of a team, showing enthusiasm and maturity

Desirable criteria
- Good oral and written presentation skills

Teaching

Essential criteria
- Demonstrate experience in teaching
- Demonstrate interest in research
- Evidence of contribution to published research in peer review journal

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
