The Security function within Defra's DDTS are recruiting a Sector Cyber Strategy Lead.

Defra plays an integral role in the protection of two areas of Critical National Infrastructure (CNI); Water and Food. Following the publication of the National Cyber Strategy and other international developments, Defra is seeking to enhance its understanding and strategy regarding its CNI sectors and its other areas of interest. These sectors are diverse and contrasting in their scope. To this end a broad reaching review and strategy is to be compiled to inform Defra’s response and priorities in the future.

As the Sector Cyber Strategy Lead, you will lead the formulation and implementation of this strategy within Defra group.

You will collaborate with the other Sector Cyber Security Lead (currently in post) and will have responsibility for compiling and then implementing aspects of the Sector Cyber Security Strategy for Defra’s area of interest.

You be involved in an evolving and critical policy area affecting some of our most fundamental infrastructure. This would be an ideal role for anyone with an interest in Cyber Security or Government Security work in general.

**Person specification**
- Engaging with stakeholders to drive strategy, policy and influencing the progress of activity
- Proactively leading the engaging of and working with industry and external partners to assess priorities and influence the direction of the strategy
- Engaging with technical experts in a collaborative way to build organisational and sector capability
- The post holder should look to continuously develop and enhance their knowledge of IT security and specialist topics in the field
- Deliver a good service to Policy Teams and seniors
- Develop and deliver security principles relating to security architecture within the context of the Cyber Security Strategy

**Skills and Experience**
- Communication skills will be critical, including the ability to communicate in a clear, honest and enthusiastic way
- The role will need to be able to engage, advise and influence at all levels of the organisation. This will include briefing ministers and senior civil servants
- The role will able to clearly explain difficult messages with sensitivity and political awareness when discussing issues and policy stances with industry partners and other government departments
- The incumbent will be able form excellent relationships within your department and with the wider security community including teams and the UK Intelligence Community
- Ability to analyse complex information in order to provide appropriate expert advice and guidance
- Managing complex and diverse workload, drawing on multiple teams to complete tasks
- The role will also ensure the delivery of quality outcomes by adapting expectations and leaderships styles and by celebrating and rewarding success
