Main duties of the job

The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Scientific Responsibilities
Be able to perform periodic quality control testing on a range of radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment to the required standards and guidelines.
To carry out scientific and statistical analysis and interpretation on those test results in order to identify and diagnose faults and areas for improvement.
Make judgements and recommendations based on that analysis and appropriate consultation with senior staff.
Communicate verbally and in writing all relevant findings and make recommendations on courses of action to the clients.
Assist in implementing documents, practice and procedures that assist our clients in complying with legislation and best working practices.
Perform wipe testing of radioactive sources and calibration of radiation monitoring equipment.
Conduct environmental monitoring surveys to ensure radiation dose levels are below set constraints.
Conduct collections and accumulation of radioactive waste in accordance to protocols.
Perform dose calculations and assessment of radiation incidents as directed by senior staff. Systems and Data Management
Participate in the collection and processing of data for dose audits and the setting of diagnostic reference levels.
Conduct all work in accordance to the services quality system. Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain the records required for the correct management of radioactive substances.
Organise a schedule of quality control testing for designated equipment in collaboration with the department and their operational needs.
Be involved with the distribution and reporting of results for personal dosimetry.
Organise meetings, site visits and the provision of training as required.Leadership / Management
Prioritise own work in accordance with Departmental and Trust priorities and external demands. Meet expected results by using own initiative and following general principles and applicable regulations, standards and guidelines.
Take responsibility for the work of other more junior clinical technical staff when they are performing work under the post holders direction. Education and Training
Keep abreast of the latest scientific and technical developments appropriate to the field.
Be familiar with the current guidance and best practices from relevant recognised bodies.
Enrol in Continuing Professional Development programs.
Attend appropriate seminars, courses and scientific meetings and feedback developments to the service.
Supervise trainee clinical technologists.
Assist in the teaching and training of staff, students and others on aspects of radiation protection and medical physics.
