**What’s the job ?**
The Data Engineer reports directly to the Data Architect and works within the Data and Insights team to help deliver the ICAS Data Strategy. We are a small team of creative problem solvers, who enjoy using data to drive decisions, learning new things, creating new data opportunities, and we are committed to expanding ICAS’s data capabilities. In this role you will work with stakeholders from across ICAS, who have a wide range of skills and technical experience, to help them understand their data needs, and to gain insights, support data driven decisions and deliver business value.
As a Data Engineer you will build relationships and engage with stakeholders across the business to discuss, anticipate, and document their data journey, reporting requirements and deliver an excellent customer experience. To do this, we extract data from the various systems around ICAS and store this information in our Enterprise Data Warehouse, optimised for reporting.
**Who do we need**:
We are looking for an experienced data engineer, who can combine both operating in a technical role alongside being able to communicate complicated technical concepts to a non-technical audience and represent our data needs to internal stakeholders and work collaboratively to reach joint solutions.
You will need to be able to present and discuss your reasoning and rationale behind the proposed direction and design to the wider technical and leadership team.
It is essential that you have SQL experience and of working with varied and complex data sets and data wrangling with ability to manage large /complex data and organise it effectively.
Whilst we will provide training in the particular technologies that we use we are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in a role which has regularly required extensive data manipulation (extraction, summarisation, correction, pivoting, combining, filtering or similar).
A key skill is the ability to deal with a diverse group of stake holders and their varied business needs and therefore we are looking for someone who has worked on projects that required analysis of Business Systems or Business Process, recording findings and communicating these to a wider audience.
You will be open minded, articulate and collaborative in your approach to building effective working relationships, forming partnerships with key stakeholders and achieving novel solutions to assist them on their data journey.
The ability to make sound technical decisions and to work as part of a team is inherent in this role. As Data Engineer you will be considered a resource for the organisation on all data matters. You should be comfortable making technical decisions, in what is an empowered position.
**The role**:
Reporting to the Data Architect, you will focus on the development and maintenance of the ICAS Data Warehouse ensuring good quality data integration routines with all source data, whilst supporting the immediate team and wider organisation in data matters.
We develop our data routines in SQL and SSIS using the DataVault 2.0 methodology. You will be supported to learn these different technologies and new technologies as the data landscape at ICAS develops.
As part of the Data and Insights team, you will capture requirements for the development of the data warehouse, then design and implement changes to meet these requirements.
