Blackheath Prep is an independent prep school for just over 370 students aged 3 to 11. Founded in 1996, it occupies a beautiful five-acre site close to Blackheath village. Children go on to a range of independent and maintained secondary schools, with a large proportion (at least 50% of the cohort over the last five years) being awarded academic scholarships at schools such as Alleyn’s, Colfe's, Dulwich College, Eltham College, James Allen’s Girls’ School, Sevenoaks School and City of London Schools and/or places at top Grammar schools such as Newstead Wood and St Olave’s. A large number of children are also awarded scholarships in Art, Drama, Music, and Sport.

The school was inspected in June 2019 and both the quality of pupils achievements in all areas of our curriculum, from academics to Design Technology and PE, as well as the quality of pupils’ personal development were judged to be excellent.

**The Role**

Blackheath Prep is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, talented and passionate Sports Assistant to join our thriving Sports Department, supporting the teaching of Physical Education and Games across all age groups from Nursery up to Year 6. The position will also require contribution to extra-curricular activities within the department, as well as working closely with colleagues across the school.

The Sports Assistant will work across all classes, working closely with the Sport department and other sports coaches employed by the school, primarily assisting them in coaching, team management and umpiring/refereeing, as well as supporting teachers in Physical Education.

**Person Specification**

**Aims of the post**

To work alongside and assist the PE and Games Teachers within lessons, extra-curricular clubs and activities.

**Key Duties**
- Assist with the coaching and supervision of children during PE and Games lessons as directed by the Director of Sport.
- Play an active part in the extra-curricular sports programme at the School.
- Giving due consideration to the needs of individual pupils and thus ensuring that all pupils are working and developing at their own pace.
- Attend and support sporting fixtures.
- Be willing and flexible to actively get involved in the management of equipment and facilities.
- Umpire/referee matches.
- Support with PE Department administration (assisting in the management and organisation of equipment, fixtures, displays etc).
- Be responsible for the PE stores, ensuring that they are kept tidy and ready for the next user.

OTHER
- Assist with classroom activities as required.
- Provide support with administrative duties as needed.
- Attend and assist with school trips including residential trips in Years 4, 5 and 6.
- Assist with playtime supervision.
- Support at school events such as sports days, summer fair and Open Days.
- Carry out any appropriate duties as required by the Head.

All members of staff have a responsibility and duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils. Staff must be aware of the systems within the school which support safeguarding and must act in accordance with the school’s Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy and Staff Code of Conduct. Staff will receive appropriate child protection training which is regularly updated.

**Terms of Appointment**
- The post is available from September 2024 on a permanent, full time (term time only) basis.
- Actual pro-rated salary of between £20,000 - £22,000 per annum
