Independent Living Advisor

Kingston upon Thames - hybrid working

Kingston Centre for Independent Living (KCIL) is a community-based disability charity working across the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond and Sutton.

We support disabled people and their families to employ Personal Assistants (PAs) so that the disabled person can live as independently as they choose. We are looking for an ILA to support disabled people and their families in this process.

**What you may be doing now**
- You could be working in a voluntary sector, medical, care sector, education or HR setting.
- You could have lived experience of the issues disabled people face.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Manage referrals into KCIL's Independent Living Direct Payments service.
- Guide service users through the process of employing a PA.
- Build and maintain relationships.
- Supporting KCIL's activities as a whole, for example, supporting general queries from the public, and providing support at KCIL events.

**What we are looking for**

**Essential**
- Administrative Experience, and providing information and advice to others.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- To be self-motivated and work on your own initiative.
- A patient and caring manner.
- To be prepared to undergo a DBS check.
- A good understanding of Equality and Diversity.

**Desirable**
- Experience working with disabled children, adults, and/or their families/carers.
- Direct experience of disability.
- An understanding of welfare rights and benefits for disabled people.
