**About HugglePets in the Community CIC**

Through our animal therapy focused work, we support and work alongside individuals and groups to improve mental health, combat loneliness, challenge behavioural issues and promote psychological well being. Our projects focus on working with local people and incorporate social integration and skills development for children, young people and adults through emotional and social wellbeing sessions.

**Post**:Animal Assisted Therapist

**Hours of Work**: Sessional (Mon - Fri) Average 1-2 days a week/this can vary

**Pay: Sessional Based**

**Purpose of the post**:

- To offer an environment where people feel safe and secure
- To work actively with people in the community
- To offer therapy tailored to the individual needs and abilities of each person
- To be aware of any safeguarding issues at all times and deal with them in a timely and professional manner

**Responsible to**:HugglePetsCIC Directors

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Development**
- To practice in accordance with a regulatory body (e.g - British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical framework)
- To undertake clinical supervision with an external supervisor
- To attend HugglePets CIC training and meetings as directed
- To hold an Animal Assisted Therapy qualification (preferred), however training can be provided.

**Communication**
- To attend training
- To attend supervision sessions with your line manager
- To work as a team with other staff at HugglePets CIC and share good practice and support one another

**Administration**
- To ensure Health and Safety is followed
- To ensure adequate records of session are kept in line with HugglePets CIC data protection policy

**General**
- To maintain the confidentiality of people using HugglePets in the Community, Animal Assisted Therapy services
- To maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the organisation
- To work within HugglePets in the Community framework for Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory practice
- To work within HugglePets in the Community Policies and Procedures and demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission statement HugglePets in the Community
- To maintain an awareness of the issues surrounding different types of mental health problems
- To ensure the efficient use of resources at all times
- To undertake any other duties required by HugglePets in the Community.

**Animal Assisted Therapist**

**Essential / Desirable**

Any offers of appointment will be conditional on staff committing to completing training in those areas deemed essential to the post

**Qualifications and training**

Degree or Diploma in Counselling and a minimum of 150 hours of counselling undertaken

Animal Assisted Therapy Principles (Certificate)

**Employment History**

Two years of previous or current employment / work experience supporting people with mental health problems (e.g Depression, Anxiety, Abuse, Trauma etc). (Desirable)

Experience of working with children and young people.

**Skills and experience**

Extensive specialised knowledge of the immediate and longer-term impacts of mental health problems

High standards of practice and presentation of work

Able to prioritise own workload and deal with competing demands

Extensive knowledge of child safeguarding issues, legislation and best practice

Understanding of adult safeguarding issues, legislation and best practice

Understanding of the need and ability to maintain professional notes and records of their interactions and interventions with clients

An understanding of the impact of trauma on children and adults

**Personal attributes**

Ability to work on own initiative, in partnership and as part of a team

Ability to work in an empathic manner and develop a safe supportive relationship, rapport and alliance with clients
