Marine and Digital Consultant Engineer
We are currently looking for a Marine and Digital Consultant Engineer to support our Maritime Services digital systems programmes and join our talented team based in Portsmouth.
As a Marine and Digital Consultant Engineer, you will work under the oversight of a Project Engineering Manager (PEM) and be involved in ensuring the service that's delivered to their project(s) is safe and delivers an optimised engineering product.
You will have the opportunity to be involved in a number of projects including our Digital Thread and Twin Programme, a fast-paced programme currently in requirements gathering and setting phase which is to be developed using an agile approach over the nexttwo years. You will also be involved with the Type 26 frigate Cost and Availability Modelling, which involves looking at alternative ways of supporting ships such as T26 in the future. This programme is currently in the middle of the development phase, movinginto testing later this year. You will also support the Business Development teams with emergent bids in both the defence and commercial sectors.
During project planning, reviewing all work in conjunction with stakeholders to ensure that it contains sufficient engineering content, appropriate levels of acceptance and assurance and that product safety/ quality considerations have been incorporated intothe Project Haz ID/ Quality scope
Being responsible for driving technology and process-focussed improvements into the business and seeking out opportunities for future development of the business
Acting as an interface for engineers, planners and managers in the Maritime Services space, as well as data scientists and developers without in-depth knowledge of the business; translating requirements, viewpoints and insights between these groups
Maintaining engineering oversight, providing engineering governance, assurance and facilitating project(s) to ensure overall quality and integrity of production work in addition to formal quality related events
Liaising closely with cross-functional teams regularly during the course of the project and to ensure that emerging engineering issues and queries are identified and addressed through appropriate engineering channels
Ensuring requirements are fully understood and output is of the required standard
Ensuring compliance with mandated MOD safety and environmental systems.
Supporting with the development, maintenance and modification of engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need; in particular the implementation of an agile approach
Supporting the development of best practice to increase the capability, performance of tools and processes
Contributing to the engineering aspects of Life Cycle Management ensuring the project delivers against mandated and Fleet Services LCM policy
Acting as the focus for Engineering activity within the relevant area of the business ensuring the correct delegated levels of authority are engaged, including management of Engineering Risk and Opportunities
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential
Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline
Good understanding of systems engineering processes and toolsets
Experience of in-service engineering support in maritime defence or other similar industry
Desirable
Experience of System Modelling
Experience of bid development and the production of associated deliverables
