**Responsible for**:The development and delivery of teacher professional development courses. Conducting data collection, analysis and subsequent write up of publications resulting from the research project.

**Salary**:£6,466 - 6,793.20

**Hours**:7.2 per week (1 day), 0.2 FTE

**Term**:until July 2024

**Research Project Information:
Despite recent efforts to raise the profile of experiments in terminal GCSE assessments, teachers frequently focus on substantive knowledge at the expense of detailed understanding of the experimental skills required to undertake scientific enquiry. Microscale experiments offer an affordable and safe pedagogic strategy to support teachers move beyond a recipe-based approach to experimentation and support teachers diagnose and challenge the misconceptions held by students. In this pilot project we will offer professional development courses on using microscale experiments as a strategy to teach common KS3 and KS4 experiments and investigate the extent to which microscale supports teachers support a deeper understanding of scientific enquiry in their lessons.

**Job Purpose**:
This role offers a unique opportunity to support the delivery of three face to face professional development sessions supporting the introduction microscale experiments in early career teachers pedagogic practice. By proactively working with early career teachers working in St Mary’s University partner school, this role affords opportunity to critically examine professional development offered on microscale experiments and inform new professional development that can be expanded to a national and international scale.
