**Job Description: Assistant Greenkeeper**

**Reporting To**

Head Greenkeeper

**Role**

To carry out routine golf course maintenance tasks and additional tasks relevant to any course development projects undertaken by the Club as directed by the Course Manager, Deputy Course Manager, in accordance with the Club’s Golf Course Maintenance Policy, its Health and Safety Policy and the Greenkeepers Code of Conduct.

**Responsibility**
- Perform all tasks to a high standard at all times.
- Ensure that all work areas both on and off the course are left clean, tidy, and well presented at all times.
- Take action to remedy any condition or damage found on the course which affects the high standard expected, or report as necessary.
- Perform all relevant pre-start checks prior to use of any machinery or equipment.
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and stored in good condition, and are cleaned prior to storage after use, each day.
- Report machinery/ equipment defects or damage immediately.
- Read, understand and then sign all relevant risk assessments before undertaking any task.
- Maintain Health & Safety and work within the Club’s policy at all times.
- Maintain PC based work, machinery and fuel records.
- Work overtime when needed to meet the needs of the business.

**Specific Duties**
- Carry out routine course maintenance including mowing of greens, teeing grounds, surrounds, fairways, rough and semi rough.
- Carry out routine maintenance of bunkers, gardens and club surrounds.
- Set up the golf course, including changing holes, moving tee markers, indicating OOB, Drop zones and hazards.
- Identify and control pests, weeds and diseases.
- Renovate worn and damaged turf.
- Prepare and maintain machinery.
- Irrigate turf as required.
- Assist and advise the Course Manager to carry out appropriate maintenance and treatment of grasses and soils throughout the year.
- Assist and advise during construction projects in accordance instructions from the Course Manager.
- Plant or prune trees as necessary, after receiving instruction from the Course Manager.

**Person Specification**

As an important member of the team you will ideally have/be:

- Hold NVQ Level Two Greenkeeping qualification or equivalent.
- The ability to use your own initiative when working alone.
- Good communication skills to work effectively as part of the team.
- Trustworthy and reliable.
- The work has a high physical requirement. Stamina and good health are essential.
- Hold a desire to continue your own professional development through appropriate training and education.
- Hold a valid UK driving license.

**Working Hours**

Normal working, hours including 30min break:
Apr - Sep 6:00am - 2:30pm

Oct - Mar 7:00am - 2:30pm

Weekday overtime will be necessary on occasion and will be paid as time in lieu.

Weekend overtime will be required on a rota basis, approximately every third week, with several additional shifts as required by the needs of the Club. The normal weekend shift, paid at time and a half, would be 3 hours on both Saturday and Sunday mornings starting at a time as directed by the course manager, to prepare the course for the days golf. Bank Holidays will be paid at double time.

**Salary**

In addition to a competitive:

- 20 days holiday per annum, increasing to 25 for time served, plus bank/public holidays. Up to half of your holiday entitlement can be used between April 1st and October 1st by arrangement. Some no holiday periods will apply.

- Provision of a uniform and all Personal protective Equipment required.

Training as required to further greenkeeping skills as well as both funding and support for any relevant future training and qualifications by agreement.
