University of York, United Kingdom University of York Full time

**Role Description**:
The Next Generation Research SuperVision Project (RSVP) is a groundbreaking £4.6 million, four-year initiative aimed at transforming the culture of doctoral education and supervision in the United Kingdom. This ambitious project, funded by Research England and supported by all seven UKRI research councils, Wellcome Trust, and the Crick Institute, is directed by Dr. Karen Clegg of the University of York and Professor Doug Cleaver of Sheffield Hallam University. RSVP's consortium includes the University of Nottingham, King's College London, Coventry University, and the UK Council for Graduate Education, along with participation from over 15 additional universities and industry partners, such as Unilever, GSK, the BBC, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

**Main Purpose of the Role**:
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate within the RSVP project, your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the research efforts that will underpin a comprehensive transformation of research supervision practices in the UK. This transformation involves a multifaceted approach, encompassing scholarship, practice interventions, cultural shifts, and policy changes. Your role will be instrumental in shaping the future of doctoral education and research supervision in the UK.

Role: The post is available for three years in the first instance from January 2024 to December 2026.

**Skills, Experience and Responsibilities**:

- Conduct a systematic review of the literature related to research supervision.
- Perform interviews with key stakeholders, including supervisors at all levels, research students, and other relevant parties.
- Collaborate with the design and evaluation teams to identify additional data requirements and execute the necessary research.
- Analyse and interpret data sets to inform project objectives.
- Contribute to the development of question sets and analysis for the 2nd and 3rd iterations of the UK Research Supervision Survey.
- Produce reports and publishable work to support the project, with potential collaboration with other team members.

**Team and Collaboration**:
You will join the dynamic RSVP team at the University of York, led by Dr. Karen Clegg, and work closely with a project manager, mentoring coordinator, digital resource developer, and a Communications and Admin Manager. Your position will be situated within the Research Innovation and Knowledge Exchange directorate and involve collaboration with colleagues in the York Graduate Research School and the Department of Education. Furthermore, you will work in close partnership with the project consortium, the expert design team, and the evaluation team.

**Benefits**:
In addition to the opportunity to contribute to a transformative project with significant impact on research supervision in the UK, we offer supportive and collaborative work environment, and access to resources and expertise from a network of prestigious institutions and industry partners.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic researcher looking to make a meaningful contribution to the future of doctoral education and research supervision in the UK.

The University strives to be diverse and inclusive - a place where we can ALL be ourselves.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
