Rural Surveyor

We're seeking for a Chartered Rural Surveyor to join our team managing diverse let estates across Sussex & Kent. Collaborating with a wide range of in-house conservation and heritage experts, tenants and other stakeholders you’ll play a pivotal role in our sustainable land and built asset management initiatives. Your colleagues will rely on your expertise for advice and guidance.
We need someone with strong rural surveying skills, conservation and agricultural knowledge, combined with an innovative entrepreneurial approach, to deliver sustainable land and built property management to our portfolios.
Your contractual place of work will be at the Scotney Castle let estate office, with an expectation for you to attend the office at least once a week. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust locations. You will work face-to-face with colleagues for 40-60% of your working week at a National Trust site.
Due to the travel requirements, you must hold a full driving license and have access to your own vehicle, business mileage claimable through expenses.
We are offering a salary of £43,000 per annum.

What you'll be doing:You'll build upon the relationships we have with our tenants and stakeholders.
You'll be involved in a range of work, which on a day-to-day basis might include managing agricultural tenancies, environmental and land management schemes, woodland and deer management, landscape project delivery, negotiating access rights, residential and commercial lease negotiations, and occasional acquisitions and disposals.
Most importantly, we need you to be an effective and convincing adviser who brings a range of technical skills, considerate relationship management and sensitivity to conserving our land and buildings.
- Who we're looking forA member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
- Good knowledge of land use, agriculture, asset management and land management
- Good working knowledge and experience in environmental issues, conservation, sustainable development and regenerative farming
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills
- Proven problem-solving abilities in rural surveying using technical knowledge
- Demonstrable consulting skills: listening, building trust and delivering a high-quality service
