Our Ophthalmology team is delighted to welcome you on a full-time basis to join them and help in providing high quality care at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.

Being part of a specialist and integrated multidisciplinary team, we thrive in providing the best patient centred care to our local communities across all our 3 hospital sites. Your expertise will be instrumental to the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated Glaucoma Ophthalmology service across the Trust.

You will promote a positive and supportive atmosphere which encourages staff to innovate and to go beyond the call of duty in order achieve key objectives. We shall provide you the support and resources to develop innovative ways to meet capacity demands including virtual clinics.

As a specialist in Glaucoma, you will lead the change in the department and become the expert voice in advising the consultants and other clinicians on treating patients with a combination of ocular problems.

We share community schemes, integration with Optometrists, expanded roles for nurses and other non-medical health care professionals, and a high level of clinical research that has shaped improvements in eye care. You will have an array of opportunities to develop further your special interest in anenvironment where your skills and initiatives are valued.

The proposed job plan consists of 10 programmed activities (PAs), 8 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 2 PAs of supported professional activities per week. You will be part of the 1:12 on-call rota.

Supported by a multidisciplinary team, your main priority will be to provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient Glaucoma Ophthalmology services across the Trust.

You will take an active interest in the teaching and training of medical staff, Optometrists and Orthoptic staff in your specialist field having a continuous responsibility for the care of patients and the development of the service.

You will demonstrate leadership and innovation in the delivery of service, and you will guide and advise the more junior members of the team. In addition, you will have an active part in Clinical Governance and Audit to meet annual training requirements, and to satisfy the annual requirements for continuous professional development as set out by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

The appointee will be responsible for contributing to and coordinating the training of medical staff, hospital based Optometrists and Orthoptic staff who work in NWAFT’s Glaucoma Ophthalmology service.

The appointee has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the service, allowing for all appropriate delegation to and training for their staff.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of your clinics and must ensure that in/out patient services are covered during any planned absences.

Participation in episodes of shared care requires the Consultant to provide advice and support to clinicians in other services with regard to patients who may have a combination of Ocular problems.

All members of the consultant staff are expected to contribute to the Medical Advisory Committee, and to serve on other Hospital committees as required, unless compelling reasons prevent this.

All members of Consultant staff and honorary Consultants are expected to participate in clinical governance and audit, to meet annual training requirements, and to satisfy the annual requirements for continuous professional development as set out by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
