**Main Purpose of Job**:
Responsible for providing influential, pragmatic, and practical health and safety leadership for the UK sites and supporting and advising all Leadership and Management Teams and employees.

The purpose of this role is to improve performance through the implementation of SHE Management systems to ensure all Company, legal and best compliance levels are met.

This role will also oversee a consistent approach for the delivery of SHE and identify and pursue significant improvements.

**Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:

- Responsible for managing and developing a UK based team
- Set direction for effective safety, health and environment management
- Oversee the development and implementation of the UK’s SHE Management system
- Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming SHE Legislation and ensure that the UK has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance and other requirements
- Oversee and manage all regulatory visits, for example HSE, EA, SEPA, APHA
- Oversee the development and implementation of an effective process safety management system ensuring each UK sites’ Major Accident Hazards are managed effectively
- Work proactively with managers and other employees to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Safety, Health and Environment within their areas of responsibility
- Ensure an effective Occupational Health Programme is in place and liaise with HR on Health and Wellbeing issues particularly where a risk assessment has identified a need; including supporting HR and line managers in carrying out individual risk assessments where required
- Oversea an auditing programme and ensure corrective actions are raised to mitigate any non-conformances
- Ensure there is an effective competency management system in place across the UK sites to manage SHE competency, ensure training is delivered as required and that all employees understand the Group’s safety principles
- Ensure the delivery of the COMAH intervention improvement plan and ensure COMAH compliance is met
- Oversee the development and implementation of an environmental management system that ensures compliance with ISO14001 standard
- Ensure all aspects of the UK’s environmental permits are complied with
- Advise Senior Management on the implications of current and emerging health, safety, environment and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the site
- Identify and oversea the UK’s sites safety culture and behavioural programmes
- Ensure the development of suitable PSPIs and KPIs for each site that show how the business is performing from a SHE perspective
- Ensures compliance against REACH regulations
- Assist Managers in implementing SHE systems and procedures to meet specific requirements, such as accident reporting and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) in a consistent and effective manner
- Ensure effective and timely investigations are carried out to Investigate the circumstances and causes of accidents, near misses and non-conformances and takes necessary steps to prevent a recurrence
- Prepare SHE and Compliance Reports and activity for the Leadership team.

**Safety, Health and Environment**:

- Ensure a thorough knowledge of your Health & Safety responsibilities.
- Always wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. Take responsibility for your own PPE ensuring appropriate storage and care.
- Always strive to work in a manner safe to yourself and others and report any hazards immediately.
- Ensure all staff and visitors operates in compliance with Safety regulations
- Full responsibility for the safety of team members
- Actively participate in addressing Safety, Health and Environmental issues affecting the production areas, ensuring the relevant S, H&E checks are carried out.
- Full knowledge of the Plant Emergency Procedures and associated responses are required

**Qualifications**:

- Qualified to Degree, Diploma or equivalent level and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
- A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent

**Knowledge & Experience**
- Significant experience of leading and developing a health and safety function across multiple sites is desirable
- Experience in dealing with the external authorities
- Experience in dealing with external HS&E audi
