**About the Role**:
We are looking to recruit a patient navigator / prescription clerk to join our team at the Elizabeth Courtauld Surgery in Halstead, on a part time basis for 25 hours per week as follows:

- Monday 08:30 - 13:30
- Tuesday 08:30 - 13:30
- Wednesday 08:30 - 17:00
- Thursday 08:30 - 17:00

You will join a team that takes pride in its ‘can do’ approach, working within what can be a busy, often demanding, but highly rewarding environment, working within clearly defined protocols and procedures, covering a mixture of duties involving direct patient contact, telephone-based work and processing online or paper prescription requests.

Key responsibilities include:

- Answering telephone calls in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Ensuring all Visitors sign in and receive a badge.
- Delivering accurate and complete messages, transferring calls as appropriate to doctors, nurses and admin staff.
- Handling patient or other outside agency queries and assisting in finding solutions.
- Receiving prescription requests and directing these to the prescription team.
- Taking payments for private fees and processing credit card payments.
- Ensuring the smooth and efficient running of clinics.
- Receiving and recording requests for home visits.
- Ensuring that the clinicians are aware of patients who require immediate attention.
- Having a basic awareness / dealing with challenging behaviour.
- Making new and follow up appointments.
- Carrying out any other administrative duties as deemed necessary by the management or senior navigator.
- Receiving new patient registration forms and photocopying ID.
- Processing prescription requests received online or paper copies within the practice’s timeframe.
- Talking to patients about any prescription queries and dealing with these in a polite manner according with our processes.
- Using the clinical system for processing repeat prescription requests.
- Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
- Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
- Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
- Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
- Strong IT and administration skills;
- Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.

Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
