**The Post**

Student Welfare and Attendance Officers are responsible for improving and maintaining good student attendance, in line with College targets. The post holder will be visible to students during the College day, checking student attendance on campus at the start of timetabled blocks of lessons. The postholder will employ positive strategies to promote good attendance, as per the College’s Attendance and Punctuality Policy, although a key part of the role will be to carry out interventions with students, if attendance declines without explanation.

**Key Responsibilities**
- To work with the Student Welfare Manager and Bridge Programme Manager to identify students who have low attendance.
- To draw on positive strategies to promote good attendance with students who are identified as ‘at risk’ of low attendance, in line with the College’s Attendance and Punctuality Policy.
- To carry out interventions with students who are placed on D1 Disciplinary for poor attendance, to set the student attendance targets, support the student with strategies to improve attendance, and monitor the student’s adherence to the D1 targets.
- To escalate a D1 Disciplinary to D2 Disciplinary, if a student who has been placed on a D1 Disciplinary for attendance does not meet the attendance targets set during the D1 intervention.
- To meet with the student and their parents/carer, if a D1 Disciplinary for attendance is escalated to D2 Disciplinary because the student did not meet the attendance targets set for them in the D1 Disciplinary stage, and to draw up a learner agreement between the student and the College.
- To escalate a D2 Disciplinary to D3 Disciplinary, if a student who has been placed on a D2 Disciplinary for attendance fails to comply with the attendance agreement they signed as part of the D2 Disciplinary, and to refer the D3 Disciplinary to an Assistant Principal.
- To contribute to patrolling shared areas of one of the College campuses before and after the start of timetable blocks of lessons.
- To direct students to attend lessons where necessary.

**General Responsibilities**
- Comply with any rules and regulations which the College may from time to time issue, to ensure the efficient operation of its business and the welfare and interest of its employees and learners.
- Work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College.
- To ensure adherence to all College policies and procedures including Staff Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education and IT Policy and procedures.
- To work to the College quality standards and systems within the context of the College quality systems.
- To ensure continuous professional development (CPD) requirements as specified by the College and that may be identified during college processes, for example Developmental reviews.
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are appropriate to this level of post.

**Essential Criteria**
- A Level 3 or above academic or professional qualification
- An ability to use or willingness to learn online systems for recording interactions with students
- Good English and mathematics skills
- Ability to interact effectively with students
- Ability to support students to meet targets
- A supportive and positive approach to working with students
- An effective team player
- Good administrative and organisational skills
- Effective communication skills
- Flexibility

**Terms of Employment**
