**Job description**

It’s an exciting time to influence and shape Government policy on how to improve the environment for future generations. Nature recovery, tackling nutrient pollution and achieving sustainable growth has never been more important. Nutrient pollution is a particular problem for freshwater habitats and estuaries. Increased levels of nutrients can ultimately damage protected sites and the wildlife that live there.
Nutrient markets are being tested in several catchments as an innovative approach to nutrient management and enabling nutrient neutral development.
We are seeking a Nutrient Markets Senior Adviser to evaluate current schemes and to understand the role they can play in achieving our environmental objectives. You will help identify and manage the strategic risks and opportunities they present and build and use relationships with internal and external stakeholders to collate, share and mobilise learning from the experience of nutrient markets. You will improve our foresight of nutrient markets and their relationship with wider policy areas, including other environmental markets and regulation of nature-based solutions. You will use this to shape our future organisational approach to nutrient markets.

**The team**

You will be part of the Nutrients and Nature Recovery Programme team in Water & Land Quality. You will work closely with Natural England, Defra and other partners. This is a cross-cutting area of work. Key programmes of work in the team include Diffuse Water Pollution Plans, Protected Sites Strategies, leading and supporting the business on nutrient neutrality and shaping key plans and strategies related to nutrients and nature recovery.

**Experience/skills required**

We are looking for an individual looking to make a difference who has a good understanding of nutrient management and nutrient markets. We would be very interested in hearing from you if you have some or all of the following experience:

- Excellent knowledge and a strong understanding of relevant key issues, risks, opportunities relating to nutrient management
- Distilling and communicating key learning from evidence to build organisational capacity
- Working with others and across different disciplines
- Strategic thinking and horizon scanning
- A proactive, self-motivated attitude that delivers quality outcomes
