Undergraduate Tutor

We are seeking an undergraduate tutor to assist primarily with the running of the surgical teaching and placements in the Acute and Critical Care (ACC) final year module.

The postholder will assist our current ACC local lead tutor with designing, evaluating and delivering this important programme of learning. Locally, they will work with our other undergraduate tutors and five clinical teaching fellows as well as supporting clinical teams to ensure that the curriculum is delivered to a high standard.

The Cumberland Infirmary itself is a hospital of around 450 beds which continues to offer a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services due to its geographical location including vascular surgery, Max-fax and primary PCI. It is a trauma unit and as such accepts patients from the Lake District and beyond.

It goes almost without saying that with the Lake District on the doorstep there are ample opportunities for a variety of leisure activities. Students and faculty are often to be found rambling, fell running, kayaking, mountain biking and swimming their way around Cumbria in their spare time.

As a tutor in the department the appointee will have the rewarding role of academic mentor for fourth and final year students, teach students undertaking other modules where appropriate as well as supporting summative student examinations.

On a regional basis the appointee will attend the university ACC meetings to discuss curriculum and evaluation data to support programme improvements. There will also be opportunities to teach in Newcastle itself, support examination standard setting and selection of future medical students.
