Astell Associates (a trading name of Eastland Foresters Ltd) is a long-established ecological consultancy in the northeast of Scotland. Our work is varied and widespread across Scotland and we provide consultancy support on projects ranging from new golf course developments to domestic house extensions. We have an exciting opportunity for an additional ecologist to join our team.

We are looking for a person with a minimum of two years' experience in ecological consultancy, with an interest in progressing to take on more responsibility. The job will provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate a broad range of skills by undertaking specialist technical work, whilst working as part of a small, integrated, ecological team. The proposed salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience.

Experience in a range of flora and fauna surveys, and at least one protected species survey licence, is highly desirable. You should be able to carry out Preliminary Ecological Appraisal surveys and produce the associated reports independently. Experience of carrying out tree surveys would be very advantageous.

The role will include but not be limited to:

- Undertaking protected species surveys (most commonly bats and badgers);
- Undertaking Preliminary Ecological Appraisals on a variety of sites;
- Carrying out arboricultural (tree) surveys;
- Producing comprehensive survey reports based on field work;
- Liaising with Clients to answer queries.
- At least 2 years’ experience within an Ecological Consultancy;
- Arboricultural Surveys (desirable);
- Protected Species Surveys across a variety of sites;
- Preliminary Ecological Appraisals;
- Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain and be able to carry out calculations and assessments
- Report writing for Ecological Consultancy, including using software such as QGIS, ArcGIS and AutoCAD;
- Office-based tasks, such as producing fee proposals, carrying out desk studies and liaising with Clients;
- Excellent English verbal, written and communication skills and a keen eye for detail;
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM);
- Protected Species Licences (or be willing to work toward gaining such licences);
- A full driving licence and own vehicle.

Working Environment:

- You will be based at our rural office just outside Aberdeen, with the potential to work remotely when necessary;
- Our normal office hours are Monday to Friday, but you should be available to work flexible hours, including unsociable hours and weekends, particularly during the busy summer bat survey season;
- Time off in lieu can be arranged during quieter months, in addition to 28 days' annual leave.

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
