**BEACONSFIELD TOWN COUNCIL**

**Grounds Maintenance Operative**
**- £26,873 - £28,770 (NJC Scale Point 13-17), 8am-4pm (37 hours per week), Monday-Friday, Generous pension scheme.**

- Much of the role will be independent work but will also require assisting other operatives in all areas of work where two personnel are required for health and safety or expediency purposes.

- The role can be physically demanding at times and the jobholder will work outdoors in all weather conditions.

**Duties**

Operating a ride-on mower to cut grass at the council’s open spaces and roadside verges.

Operating a tractor and associated attachments or trailer.

Clearing vegetation along footpaths and other rights of way.

Carrying out weekly inspections of playground & park equipment, recording any defects and resolving issues in a timely manner.

Maintaining shrubs and plants in beds in accordance with good horticultural practice and design. This includes pruning, mulching, border maintenance, monitoring for signs of pest and disease infestations and treating as appropriate.

The installation, maintenance, and repair of street furniture including: bins, benches, noticeboards, fences, and bollards.

Carrying out biannual inspections including tree surveys and the council’s assets.

Strimming

Weeding (spraying/manual removal)

Clearing leaves

Hedge Cutting at green spaces as well as roadside hedges.

Monitoring and maintaining wildflower areas.

Maintaining the Community Garden and area around plots at the Allotment.

Maintaining, cleaning, and refuelling all grounds vehicles and equipment.

Scrub clearance to provide more functional spaces.

Scheduled and reactive litter picking/removal of waste.

Maintaining the Memorial Garden located at the local War Memorial.

Maintaining the Town Green.

Woodland management and tree work including: chipping, crown lifting, deadwooding, felling, pollarding/coppicing, and the removal of unwanted growth such as ivy, epicormic growth, and suckers.

Planting replacement trees, shrubs, flowers, and hedges.

Reactive tasks during inclement weather including: gritting, snow shovelling, storm clearance, and ensuring plants have sufficient water and nutrition during dry periods.

Maintaining the Local Nature Reserve.

Ensuring that all equipment and machinery is properly maintained, secured, and any faults or defects are reported immediately.

Ensuring all relevant health and safety legislation is being adhered to, incidents are recorded, tasks are risk assessed, and PPE, clothing, and first aid equipment stock levels are adequate.

Promoting conservation and ecological biodiversity wherever possible to strengthen the Council’s net zero carbon emissions goals and minimise any adverse impact on the local area.

Suggesting new or refreshed planting, displays, and schemes.

Maintaining the grounds workshop/base and ensuring it is always kept in a tidy and presentable manner.

Pay: £26,873.00-£28,770.00 per year
