**Role: Children's Occupational Therapist**

**Department: Children, Families and Education**

Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Children's Occupational Therapist on behalf of Luton Borough Council within their Children, Families and Education department.

**Main purpose of position**:
To promote, enable and support independence and development, and to maintain health and wellbeing for Children with disabilities to strength based and person centred approach to practice. Working with Children, their families, carers and associated professionals.

**As a Children's Occupational Therapistyouwill be responsible to**:

- Work with children with a wide range of disabilities, devising and providing a planned programme of therapeutic interventions, by undertaking environmental assessment of the Child's home.The post holder will be responsible for establishing if the Childmeets criteria for the provision of service, and to the devise appropriate interventions to support independence with daily living tasks, including age appropriate personal care tasks and development goals to maximise.
- Discuss with children and families the outcome focused care plans from their assessment to meet their needs and to maximise independence ensuring value for money is achieved.
- To organise any necessary property adaptations with the appropriate involvement of other agencies, to recommend design and to monitor process for the provision of adaptations.
- Maintain detailed and accurate case records, and provide written reports when appropriate.
- To participate in regular supervision with line manager, and take on any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post.

**Skills and Experience**
- Post qualifying experience including some experience in the field of Children with disabilities.
- Experience of coaching/mentoring including practice teaching.
- Able to demonstrate competence in Occupational Therapy practice.
- Demonstrable report writing skills.
- Able to communicate and build effective relationships with customers, staff, public and other professionals, negotiating and influencing as appropriate.
- Able to develop the professional needs of other junior team members.
- Able to work to complex and conflicting demands, prioritising workload to meet targets.
- Able to undertake research and initiate change/development.
- Demonstrable understanding of equality issues relating to the tasks and commitment to the achievement of equality.
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation, national guidance and best practice
- Relevant to the post.
