We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and committed Specialist Orthoptist ideally with experience in clinical teaching, vision processing disorders and stroke assessment to join our enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team of Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Science Practitioners, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, and nursing and administrative staff at UHDB.

The post holder will be expected to provide support for all aspects of the roles and responsibilities outlined in the Job Description as a Specialist Orthoptist, this would include supporting the clinical education of Orthoptic undergraduate students, supporting the Orthoptic clinical lead for Stroke in the assessment and management of in and out-patient stroke referrals, and developing your clinical skills in order to support the provision of the Visual Processing Disorder service.

The successful post holder will be required to work both singlehandedly and as part of a team at any of the UHDB locations.

This is a part-time post only, therefore not suitable for newly qualified Orthoptists as previous experience is essential.

As Orthoptic clinical Tutor you will provide support for the undergraduate Orthoptic students on clinical placement.

This will include providing assistance in the planning of student timetables, supporting induction, delivering structured clinical tutoring, supporting reflective practice and providing feedback to the University Tutors. You will also provide support to staff in mentorship and preceptorship, and practice development within the Orthoptic service.

You will be required to provide support for all aspects of the roles and responsibilities outlined as a Specialist Orthoptist, this would include supporting the Orthoptic clinical lead for Stroke in the assessment and management of in and out-patient stroke referrals, and providing support to the Orthoptic lead for VPD in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to this service, to include assessment of rate of reading, developmental eye movement, overlay assessment and TVPS (Test of Visual perception Skills) visual processing disorders.
