Excellent opportunities are available to pursue research within the scope currently being undertaken in the Department and that of interest to the individual.

This post in particular has a stronger research commitment with dedicated time for its conduct. Depending on the career pathway of the successful applicant he/she will be expected to complete a research project by the end of the placement. The appointee will be encouraged to register, if applicable and suitably qualified, for a higher degree with the Cardiff University MD or PhD). The primary research project attached to this post will be focused on non
- invasive markers of pancreas rejection. It will aim to explore the role of cell free DNA, pancreas prohormones and exosomes in diagnosing acute rejection of pancreas allografts. This study (EMPAR) has full REC and institutional approval and is already underway.

The postholder will coordinate this research and will take part in some of the experimental work required. This project is a national collaboration and therefore the post might require some travel to the collaborators Units.

This is a mixed research clinical post designed to offer opportunity for research, and support all aspects of the clinical service including Dialysis Access Surgery, General Surgery, Transplant Surgery and the National Organ Retrieval component of Cardiff Transplant Unit, and also ensure compliance with the EWTD of Junior Doctors. The holder of this post along with 3 NTN trainees, 2 speciality doctors/senior fellows, 1 teaching fellow and 2 other Clinical Research Fellow colleagues will provide out of hours cover for the Transplant Unit under the direct supervision of the Transplant Consultant on call. The postholder will participate in an appropriate rota to cover Organ Retrieval. The daytime duties include in-patient care of transplant and dialysis access surgery patients. Each Research Fellow is expected to participate in a set number of clinics and theatre sessions on a rotational basis and devote significant time to their research.
