St Helens, United Kingdom St. Helens Council Full time

**Job Description**:
Working at St Helens Borough Council.
St Helens is a transformational Council which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough.
We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.
Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.
Making A Difference as a Mobile Caretaker in Schools Traded Services.
With responsibility for the care, security and operational effectiveness in our teams, our Caretakers have a very important role in supporting our schools.
The hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday, split shifts. Your times of work will be between the hours of 0600 and 1800, dependent upon the School / Council building you will be required to work.
Our Caretakers undertake a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities from being key holders, organising contractors to carry out repairs, storage of cleaning equipment, ventilation management, grounds maintenance and much more

Our Caretakers need to demonstrate a good working practice of the cleaning sector and be able to work with safe working practices utilising their knowledge of health and safety procedures and hazards.
Our Caretakers are responsible for the care and security of the school premises, which will include opening and closing. The Caretaker will also be responsible for alarm response (out of hours), which will be paid at the appropriate rate for call outs. You may, from time to time, be required to work overtime for after school activities, for which the appropriate rate of pay will be paid.
Because our Caretakers work with a wide range of people inside and outside the school, good communication skills and the ability to handle situations sensitively is a must. Organisation is important for our Caretakers, whether that be for the organisation of work with and through others, or for completing routine paperwork.
This Authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
