My client in **Kent** is looking for an experienced **Band 6 Haematology/Blood Transfusion Biomedical Scientist** for a locum contract.

Job Role:

- Monday
- Friday
- 37.5 h/week
- To assess the clinical relevance and importance of diagnostic test requests, work in progress and test results ensuring gross abnormalities are reported to the Senior BMS..
- To assess the clinical importance of diagnostic test requests and results, which impact on patient, care and communicate these effectively to appropriate agencies after informing the Senior BMS. (While working as an autonomous practitioner authorise andtake actions on results ensuring medical staff are aware of grossly abnormal results and ensuring the Senior BMS is advised when back on duty).
- To use interpretive skills to determine the clinical significance of laboratory tests by reporting on test findings and suggested follow up investigations.
- To decide what further investigations to perform to aid in the diagnosis of the patients condition.
- To provide technical advice to clinicians on the appropriateness of tests and timescales
- To authorize results and take actions such as telephoning urgent results and suggesting blood products best required (with the support of the Senior BMS where possible)
- To contribute to the Departmental delivery of specialised Patient-Focused Clinics
- To provide information for Multi-Disciplinary Meetings as appropriate
- To perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations according to SOPs.
- To undertake technical validation of complex results from laboratory investigations and ensure accuracy and precision as specified by laboratory protocols.
- To measure and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures.
- To assess, initiate and monitor appropriate action when a situation may cause service delivery failure in agreement with the Senior Biomedical Scientist.
- To review, assess and initiate corrective action when quality control procedures indicate loss of performance with the laboratory instruments or methods and monitor results in agreement with section leader.

Qualifications and Experience required:

- **HCPC registered as a BMS**:

- Specialist portfolio with satisfactory assessment by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
- Experience post HCPC registration
- Working alone during an out-of-hours service
- Comprehensive specialist haematology or transfusion knowledge and experience
- Health & Safety legislation and procedures
- Quality Control and Assurance
