John Watson School is looking to appoint a Home School Link Worker to join our existing vibrant and friendly team in our all age special school, we are looking for someone who is committed and a problem solver.

We are looking for a resilient, reliable and supportive individual who will support us to deliver a high-quality education provision to our pupils. You will need good communication skills and plenty of energy. The Home School Link Worker role will be the bridge between our pupils’ families and school, therapists and other professionals.

The role will include being proactive in seeking support for our families in relation to school and the wider community. You will be required to become one of our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs) and lead Early Help Assessments (EHA), attend Team Around the Family (TAF) and Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) Annual Review Meetings.

There will be a requirement to carry out home visits to support families and children and to work on your own as and when this is necessary.

John Watson School is a Special School with sites in Wheatley and Holton. We cater for children with Special Educational Needs from the ages of 2 - 19 years. We aim to create a happy, healthy and secure learning environment in which the needs of all pupils are met, enabling each child to reach their individual potential. We offer pupils opportunities for integrated educational experiences with their peer groups in the primary and secondary schools whose sites we share. We support pupils in developing their independence, social and communication skills that can be used at school, at home and in the community.

We are judged Good by Ofsted (October 2022) and we are ambitious in our vision for the future provision for our pupils. We offer small classes, typically less than 10 pupils per class, working within large teams of support staff and additional NHS therapists.

Home School Link Worker

Responsible to: The Headteacher / Deputy Headteachers

Hours: 35 hours a week with the need to be flexible to the needs of the families.

**Salary**: Grade 9 - £32,076 - £34,834 pro rata

Purpose:
To work collaboratively with families, children and the school to provide early intervention, signposting, support and guidance. The Home School Link Worker will need to have strong links to other professionals and outside agencies and form positive

working relationships with families to enable effective support for pupils and their families.

Duties and responsibilities may include any of the following:

- To work directly with families and children, individually and in groups, particularly focussing on parenting skills, behaviour management and practical support.
- Keep up to date with current support available to families and children through the Local Offer.
- Ensure families receive helpful information on their entitlements and how to support their child in a variety of ways such as phone calls, face to face meetings, home visits, links to websites.
- To create robust Risk Assessments for the support you provide inside and outside of school through liaising with the SLT and following advice from external agencies.
- To carry out home visits to support children and their families and to support the pastoral needs of the children.
- To work with the school where attendance is a cause for concern and work with families with ways to achieve good attendance.
- Receive and act upon in a timely way to referrals for support and advice following discussions in Annual Reviews.
- Assist families to complete forms, referrals and requests for support.
- Work with other professionals such as the Deputy Headteachers, the Out of School Liaison Office, LCSS and Social Care.
- Lead Early Help Assessments and attend and occasionally lead TAF and EHCP Annual Review Meetings.
