**Head of Leisure and Welfare Job Description**

**Title**: Head of Leisure and Welfare

**Reports to**: Director of Operations and Campus Life

**Summary of Position**: You will lead the development, training, and oversight of our leisure programme as well as the development and implementation of policies and procedures which allow us to provide a caring and safe environment for all students.

**Overview of the position**
As Head of Leisure, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the leisure programme, including social activities and games as well as walking tours, ensuring that students have a well-rounded and enjoyable experience during their stay. You will also be responsible for preparing all necessary materials required to deliver the programme, including materials and staff resources. Your responsibilities will extend to training staff and liaising with Activity Managers during the implementation of the programme, overseeing team performance and ensuring the smooth execution of the leisure programme. You will also oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures which allow us to achieve a safe, supportive environment for our student body.

**General Responsibilities**

Leisure Programme Development
Develop a leisure programme comprised of a diverse range of leisure activities that cater to the interests and needs of international students. Design the procedures and create the materials and resources needed for the programme.

Walking Tours Development
Develop informative and engaging walking tour resources for enhancing the cultural and local experience for students.

Staff Materials Development
Create the guidelines and resources necessary for staff to be able to deliver the leisure programme and walking tours effectively, ensuring a high standard of staff performance.

Team Leadership
Build and lead a high-performing leisure team, including Activity Managers and Activity

Quality Assurance
Monitor and evaluate the quality of leisure programmes, ensuring they meet or exceed the expectations of students, agents, British Council, and other stakeholders.

Welfare
Review and implement comprehensive welfare policies and procedures tailored to the needs of international teenage students, ensuring that robust safeguarding measures are in place and acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead (see additional responsibilities here).

Safety and Risk Management
Oversee health and safety protocols related to student welfare, including the preparation of
Risk Assessments.

Work plans
Assist in setting and follow workplans, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and timely execution. Monitor progress and manage and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and milestones.

Reporting
Provide regular reports and updates to the Director of Operations and Campus Life and other relevant stakeholders on status and progress of leisure planning as well as performance during programme implementation.

**Person specification**
- Prior industry experience is a must.
- First-hand experience in organising and leading activities for students.
- Experience in a welfare or pastoral role, preferably in an educational, camp, or youth-centred environment.
- Creativity and the ability to develop a high-quality and innovative leisure programme along with suitable materials.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training programmes for staff, ensuring their skill development to achieve a successful implementation of the programmes.
- Proven experience in programme management, ideally within an educational context.
- Proven ability to lead a team effectively, overseeing performance and providing direction, support, and feedback.
- A full understanding of British Council Accreditation requirements is a plus.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation is a plus although all necessary training can be arranged.

**Safeguarding and Eligibility Checks**
All current holders of roles involving responsibility for or substantial access to under 18s, and all new appointees to such roles, will have appropriate suitability checks, for example with the Disclosure and Barring Service (in England and Wales) or Protecting Vulnerable
Groups Scheme (in Scotland), in line with the organisation’s stringent safeguarding policy.
