**About the organisation**

CARAS is a registered charity working with people in south London and beyond who have an asylum or refugee background. Our values are:

- **Kindness. **CARAS will nurture all who are part of our community, helping everyone to develop their skills, talents and interests.
- **Justice**. CARAS will strive for social justice following a rights-based approach in all of our work and challenging instances when rights are not upheld in wider society.
- **Empowerment.** CARAS works alongside people, recognising and respecting their skills and strengths and striving together for better outcomes.
- **‘With’** **not** **‘for’.** CARAS will put the voices, opinions, experiences and needs of its beneficiaries at the heart of all that we do.

CARAS strives to keep beneficiary voice at heart of all the decision making, building opportunities for discussion and feedback at every level. We offer training and support for beneficiaries who want to gain leadership skills and contribute to the running of CARAS. We are members of reward schemes including Jack Petchey, AQA Unit Award Scheme, and we also hold a Gold Quality Mark from London Youth.

**About Youth Services at CARAS**

CARAS offers holistic support to refugees and people seeking asylum.

For many years, we have run groups to support asylum seeking and refugee young people, developing a thriving community with people who might otherwise experience isolation and exclusion from their new communities. Our youth service mainly serves unaccompanied asylum seeking children, all of whom experience varying levels of disadvantage as a result of their forced migration experience, as well as systemic challenges that are built into life in London.

We have created a flagship programme that works with young refugees, and especially separated children, paying close attention to their wishes, needs and ambitions. CARAS offers a holistic educational, social and practical programme for young people. This includes a sports programme, study support groups, youth clubs and wellbeing groups as well as practical learning workshops and individual wellbeing check-ins.

We offer a mix of online and face to face sessions for our community members.

We are seeking a creative, motivated worker who has ideas for how to contribute to a thriving service that welcomes a wide range of refugees and asylum seekers, supporting them to access a range of services within CARAS, as well as other specialist services and opportunities. The organisation relies heavily on incredible support from our volunteers and partner organisations

**Additional benefits**

CARAS offers 28 days’ annual leave per year. CARAS also pays into a workplace pension with employers’ contributions currently at 7%. We are a proud member of the Living Wage Foundation, ensuring that all employees at every level are remunerated fairly.

All front-line staff are offered monthly clinical supervision with a qualified and experienced psychologist, allowing for exploration within a confidential space of challenges that arise, and for mitigation of vicarious harm.

**About the role**

The main purpose of the role will be to coordinate our activities in the youth programme, overseeing weekly sessions to support and promote wellbeing and inclusion. This role involves working closely with colleagues, volunteers and partner organisations to offer a wide range of activities to young people, encourage young people to attend the sessions and ensure their participation, and offer a warm welcome.

You will be supported through regular line management and clinical supervision, working alongside colleagues from our welcoming and supportive youth team. There are opportunities to access relevant training for this role.

Please note that this role is offered as either full time (ie 5 days per week) or as a part-time role (4 days / 30 hours per week). We would also consider a job share. Please state your preference. It is offered as a six-month fixed-term contract.

Please note this role will involve working in a Wednesday evening until 9pm, and very occasional weekend work. During the summer holidays we run a three-day residential trip, which necessitates an overnight stay.

**Main activities**
- Ensuring high quality provision across all youth sessions (online and face to face)
- Ensuring that the young people’s voices is at heart of planning, delivery and evaluation of the programme
- Liaising with stakeholders to ensure the highest quality of service
- Ensuring that young people’s skills, talents and contributions are recognised and rewarded
- Overseeing the practicalities of resourcing sessions
- Managing participation in the sessions, communicating with young people and their carers about sessions
- Building and manag
