Skipton, United Kingdom GB Railfreight Full time

Overview:

- Get your career on track. _

Thinking of a career change?

Have you considered the railway before? If so, we would like to hear from you and hopefully help get your career on ‘track’. Pun intentional.

The role in question is based in Eastleigh out of GB Railfreight operated Network Rail Local Distribution Centre.

**Responsibilities**:
The Rail Operator (groundstaff) role is a very hands on job and you will witness countless sunsets and sunrises as you prepare our trains for a timely departure at various times of day and night. The railway never sleeps and there is no such thing as unsociable hours when you are sharing a cup of tea with a colleague at 3AM.

You will be in charge of departing and arriving trains as per our customers’ orders, whether it’s aggregates or container trains or even engineering trains for Network Rail, which keep our railways safe come rain or snow (or autumn leaves).

You will work with a variety of rail professionals, from other Rail Operators to Train Managers (drivers) and Operations Managers. As a GB Railfreight employee you are a part of the railway family and everyone is happy to offer advice, support, share funny railway stories.

In terms of your role, you will be in charge of preparing the train for departure, which means putting it together according to the plan and checking it is safe to leave the yard by inspecting the wagons/containers for defects and faults while making sure all the paperwork is completed. Once that is done you will be able to watch the train roll away in satisfaction knowing it’s in perfect working condition.

Initially you will be mainly working out of Rylstone but with experience comes greater responsibility so you may get to put in a few miles driving to other locations within the area, so a driving licence is definitely a must

Qualifications:
If you have never worked in a similar role before there is no need to worry, GB Railfreight will provide any and full training required for you to do the job and do it well. Initial training is a combination of classroom and on the job learning and you will be given full support by an experienced training team.

For your efforts when you are passed competent to undertake the role, you will receive a competitive salary of £37,330 per annum based on a 39 hours contracted week. While training there is a training salary (£21,200) in place until fully competent in the role and what you get in return is a supportive work environment with managers who often go above and beyond to lend a helping hand.

And if that’s not enough reason to join us, you will also be able to enjoy the following:
**Healthcare package** - Healthcare cover for a range of operations for you and a partner living at the same address as well as cover for a number of health care facilities for you and your dependents including consultations, scans, counselling, optical, dental, and therapy treatments.
- ** Cycle to work scheme** - Salary sacrifice scheme for bicycle purchase twice a year.
- ** Denplan scheme** - Salary sacrifice scheme for you and your partner.
- ** Online Benefits Portal** - Offering hundreds or discounts at nationwide retailers.

If you’re sitting there thinking ‘where do I sign up?’, there’s only two more questions to answer:

- Do you live within 45 minutes travel time of Eastleigh?
- Do you have a full UK manual driving licence?
