We are recruiting for 3 Phlebotomists to join our Acute Medicine team at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and expert team where you will be supported to build on your current skillset.
The role involves working closely with the Phlebotomist team as well as the Nursing teams across 9 Medical wards to provide a high quality Phlebotomy and cannulation care to a wide group of patients.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who wishe to progress their career within the Health Care sector; the Trust provides various excellent training programmes to support your career progression as well as mentorship opportunities from different staff groups to support your learning and development needs.
This is a full time position, and the role requires for someone to work shift patterns; this includes being flexible to do the following shifts: 08:00 - 16:00, 06:00 - 14:00, the early shifts is to support the wards with early discharges. We also require the members of staff to have the ability to work every weekend.

**You key areas of responsbility will be**:
Responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients as specified by the ward
Work closely with the Phlebotomist team to ensure cover on all wards
Access patient notes, identify/cross reference and print requests from numerous computer systems including Cerner within outreach clinics
To be flexible and provide cover for colleagues as experience and training allows
The role of the Phlebotomist is to ensure that blood samples are taken efficiently and safety as per Trust guidelines whilst working collaboratively with the ward staff to ensure prioritisation.
- To work collaboratively with the ward nurses and support staff to collect blood samples from patients
- Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to appropriate trained staff as required
- Support early discharges of patients by prioritising blood samples to be taken
- To assist with the provision of high quality service for staff and patients
- To ensure all patient blood samples are taken efficiently and safely
- To provide support to other Phlebotomists within the team at other wards
- Responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients as specified by the ward
- Access patient notes, identify/cross reference and print requests from numerous computer systems including Cerner within outreach clinics
- Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps
- To sort and identify specimens received
- To be flexible and provide cover for colleagues as experience and training allows
