Underwriter
- Our Underwriters are at the heart of everything we do, without them our business wouldn’t function.
- The Underwriter is a key member of the underwriting team, the individual will have a level of authority to make sound underwriting decisions and contribute thinking and output to operational delivery of the strategy. The individual will take responsibility for maintaining and building new business to profitably grow MS AUL and minimise loss exposure.

- Strategy
- Responsible in collaboration with the Product Group Leader for the strategic direction of the portfolios and products, being accountable for the effective delivery of designated elements of the Reinsurance strategy and business plan.
- Identify and pursue opportunities that will enhance the Reinsurance proposition and strategic goals, collaborating with the team regularly.
- Develop and proactively manage the designated business by utilising relevant resources as appropriate.
- Set the lead in demonstrating behaviours and strategies through the market
- Work in partnership within the entity and across other entities to leverage relationships and opportunities
- Underwriting
- Develop Marketing Plan in conjunction with Underwriting Team to ensure core business parties have clear annual view of business direction and targets.
- Ensure Underwriting Team maintains regular physical and virtual contact with counter parties (London Brokers, Local Brokers and Clients).
- Ensure risks are analysed and written in accordance with the agreed parameters - making sound, profitable long term decisions with a focus on smart rationale underwriting.
- Understand and negotiate insurance/reinsurance wordings in line with corporate standards
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing and new clients/brokers through regular contact, demonstrating a clear understanding of their business and how we add value.
- Manage the business written across the department to ensure that it is compliant with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements
- Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
- Liaise an ensure regional compliance with underwriting management, taking corrective action a necessary an operating within agreed authorities ensuring that underwriting control are properly manage
- Effectively represent self and class in external activities, groups and committees
- Review underwriting figures on a regular basis in order that unusual trends and / or adverse movements may be dealt with by appropriate action
- Work in partnership with the other teams, act as a peer reviewer and leverage relationships and opportunities aligned to the wider Company strategy
