South Kensington, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

As a Contracts Negotiator for Imperial College London, you will be enabling world-leading academic research by reviewing, drafting, negotiating and gaining approval of a broad spectrum of research-related contracts. We work with blue chip and FTSE 100 companies, start-ups and entrepreneurs, UK/international government departments, academic collaborators, and charities.

We interact closely with various internal teams (including Industry Partnerships and Commercialisation, the central Research Office and Imperial College Innovations Limited). Together with our colleagues, we seek to safeguard the university's charitable position, the academic community's need to pursue further research and publish results, and ensure value for money and appropriate access to intellectual property rights for our sponsors.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Draft, review and negotiate various types of research and research-related contracts, referring to the Contracts Manager as required.
- Deploy good working knowledge of contractual issues such as intellectual property, confidentiality, liability, VAT, publications and other related issues within the context of College policies and procedures.
- Prepare draft agreements in discussion with academic and Departmental staff taking into consideration specific project requirements.
- Review draft agreements received from sponsors and propose changes, ensuring consistency and adherence to set standards, aiming to achieve the best possible terms, referring to the Contracts Manager as required.
- Liaise with sponsors, academic staff and administrative staff to reach agreement on changes to draft contracts.
- Appreciate different sponsors’ funding mechanisms, schemes, policies and standard terms.
- Liaise and interact with academic staff and administrative staff giving clear and concise advice on costing and pricing of contracts.
- Provide advice to academic staff and administrative staff with respect to contractual issues across a broad range of sponsors (commercial and non-commercial).
- Undertake due diligence and risk management activities in line with College policies and procedures.
- Develop knowledge of policies governing research and research-related activities in the Higher Education sector.

**Essential requirements**:
We are looking for an effective and pragmatic negotiator with solid understanding and experience of contractual negotiations. Such experience will have been gained ideally in the Higher Education Sector or within a similar context. Relevant sector experience will be an advantage, but is not a requirement.

Our colleagues expect us to demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and have the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely to a wide range of people of varying levels of knowledge and expertise.

You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, and feel comfortable prioritising effectively in order to ensure timely delivery across multiple projects.

You will work well both autonomously and as part of a multifaceted team.

You will share our passion for quality service; possess excellent attention to detail, and act with tact and diplomacy. You will understand the need and practice of customer focus and customer relationship skills.

**Further information**:
Full details of this role can be found in the Job Description.

This is a full time and open ended role, and you will be based in our South Kensington Campus.
